Is winning Monte of the Month a kiss of death?

I agree, if someone knows they are stepping away from MCF (such as getting out of the Monte, and decide with no Monte, no need for MCF), it would be "nice" to have that "break up" message. But it's just not the way of the world.
I think most people fall off without thinking about it. They may not realize "hey, there is a group that will miss me".

I won MOTM roughly 5 years ago and i'm still here....
although.... back when I won MOTM it was actually a tie... back before the forum had a tie breaker vote... the member that tied with me had a tony stewart edition monte and must have fell off the face of the earth as soon as the polls closed, never to be seen again....... lol

Not true - I've been here longer than anyone (besides Space) and I'm still a nobody on this forum. I have no idea why I stay.
I know what you mean... I won December 2008 after being nominated about 10-11 times and it was very rewarding, but I stuck it out still. I got into restoring the Ford Torino that summer and was gone for several months. I've been back and forth and now that I'm the "commissioner" of the MCF Fantasy League, I have plenty of reason to stick around after Monte owenrship. i still feel a sort of bond to the Monte Carlo's of the world, even though mine be sold....
I've seen several of the memebrs you're talking about... some disappeared after a year or so.... some had "incidents." Some of those stories don't deserve the attention of being told though.
There is a little group of us that have been around the block forever. Taz, Space, and myself.... Chi bi Mike has been aroudn for a long time....
I guess Taz and Space could back up what I'm saying... there is a "ebb and flow" of who owns the cars and who doesn't. There are "groups" who come and go. I was the beginning of a group of high school and college students who owned the cars. When I joined, a lot of members here were the original owners of their cars.... people like RJ, Grandpa Dave, Wayne, GodBod (Garrett), and others.... then there was a change in tide... we had a "new group" show up over the course of several months. I can't really recall who all was here. And now we in the last year or so we have seen another transition to a new group. It seems like a different type of person owns the cars every time . We're getting into people who want a cheap, reliable car that has power and can be modded. Meanwhile, that group of us who ran these cars through high school or college are looking to move on to other vehicles.
And while all of that goes on, Taz and Space will carry on as the longest serving members...

Hey, I noticed you and iv only been here for a 6 months or so. Precious is a beautiful well preserved monte at only 26,000 miles! You lucky. Some of us have to drive our montes every daya nd expose them to weather and all the crazies.
I just won MOTM and it has ment a lot to me. I always loved cars but before I got my monte I wasn't as knowledgeable about them. I really have made it my goal to be as knowledgeable about them as possible and also help people on here with the knowledge and skills I have developed before my monte (electronics).
I don't plan on leaving anytime soon. The fact remains that even if this car isn't the fastest or loudest it just looks SO DAMN COOL! Its and eye catcher and people notice it. And I can wake up every day, look at It, and be happy I own it. A lot of people are selling their monte and "upgrading" and while yes, I too would like a challenger or a cammaro or a GTO, I'm not going to sell my monte to get one. I simply will own all the cars I want. I eventually plan on building red with and engine that she deserves and giving all thoes ponys a run for their money. But for now Greg you can count on this MOTM winner to stick around.

I really don't think Winning Monte of the month has to do with a person's decision to leave the forum or not.
It's about forming relationships here on the forum. Some members may feel left out and move on.
I hope that Amy does not feel this way all the time because she certainly is not invisible on the forum
and has helped me when I entered my 1st Monte National two years ago, her being a prior Judge in other events.
People sell their Montes, feel they now no longer can participate here and drop out. I helps me that I have meet with quite a few of you guys/gals and develop a relationship off-line. I have felt invisible at time but that was just my feelings and it passed.
You guys will have to ban me to see the end of me here
