I love this thread. This is right up my alley also.
I have the Canon 30D. I bought it when it first came out so I could retire my Canon Rebel G film camera. The 30D works with my lenses and flash from the film camera.
I love the 30D, but I want to get a smaller more portable camera for occasions when taking the 30D is too much.

that's why i have the kodak. it's an easyshare z710. it's not one of those little tiny ones but it's a good point and shoot. it's light and easy to carry. takes great pictures.

i was mistaken on my canon digital, it's the D30, not the 30D. i can never remember. but it's older than the 30D and i got it for the same reason you got the 30D. i just haven't had a chance to put it on craigslist to re-sell it. i bought it a couple months ago and literally haven't used it once. partially because i haven't had time, partially because i don't feel like manual focusing EVERYTHING. i don't mind doing it when i need to but if i'm just taking random pics of the car or the little one (my niece) it's a pain. i used my brother's nikon D40 once for a car show but i didn't really like it. i'm too used to canon i guess.

it's hard for me to pare down what i have on my flickr to post some here, but here are some of my favorites. these are all taken a while ago with my 35mm.

i have a retarded amount of pics on my flickr, most of them are stuff i took at different racetracks but there's a lot of other stuff too. http://www.flickr.com/photos/29699624@N02/

I have an Olympus Evolt E-500 Digital SLR. I mostly take car show pics with it. I also have a pocket Fuji FinePix Z5 fd Digital camera when I don't feel like lugging around the good camera. Don't care to see any pics of Canadian Geese because we have tons of them around here and I can't stand them!

Jamie Lynn, the Mount Hope bridge looks a lot like the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit.

I have some pics very similar to the one you took of the bridge. But they were taken on my film camera. I'd have to search through my negatives and scan it.

I've started scanning some of my negatives, but it's a slow process. Since I can never seem to get enough time to do it.

i hear that! i had scanned a couple hundred of my prints, then shortly after my hard drive crashed. i was only able to resurrect a few of them. i have photo albums upon albums of them that i would love to scan someday. regardless, they always seem to lose a lot of their charm once they are scanned. i've tried scanning the negatives too and they seem to suck even worse than the prints (could be my scanner too).

i personally love the pic of the bridge, it was one of the first times i'd tried long exposures and i was really proud of the way it came out. i think i took almost 2 full rolls of that same shot, with different different exposures and focal lengths. i bracket the hell out of almost every shot i take, especially at night. digital makes that SO much easier (and cheaper!!). i actually entered that pic in an online contest and took 2nd place. i think i got like fifty bucks or something. it was more exciting to have it be seen though.

Below is one of the few digital pics I have of the Ambassador Bridge at night time. Well, in this case, dusk. My photo gallery has a pic of my Monte with the bridge in the background. But the sun is kinda washing it out.

I used to have an HP ScanJet 6200 scanner, but it wasn't able to be upgraded to the latest version of windows. Plus I wasn't really happy with it.

I have since bought the Canon CanoScan 8800F scanner. It uses LED's, so there's no warm up time needed. And the color seems to be more accurate. It came with software and attachments just for scanning film. I love it.

I found a pic that is closer to the one I was thinking of.

The one I was thinking of is almost exactly the same as yours. Same angle too.

But this one is close.

very nice!!! i love any pic when the sky looks like that. you just can't go wrong. i'm petrified of driving over bridges but i sure love shooting them. i can't wait to go to san francisco this summer to see the golden gate. i will probably spend a couple hours there between dusk and nighttime shooting.

the scanner i have is an epson and it came with the attachment for scanning negatives which was actually the whole reason i bought that particular one. i did a lot of research on which one to get before i bought it. i haven't used it in a while, maybe i'll give the negative scanning another shot when i have a chance. i don't know if its compatible with my mac though....
