Default Venting on Trans fluid change

I decided last week it was time to change the trans fluid. I contacted several shops and asked how they did it. it ended up I had two choices: they put a chemical in the trans, run it a few minutes then flush the old fluid out while putting new fluid in, or they would change the filter and only drain what fluid was in the pan and replace that amount. I wasn't happy with either choice, but I went with the flush, because I wanted as much old fluid out as possible. As they did it, I watched the machine that hadtwo clear tubes on it, one showing the old fluid, which was almost black, and the other showing the new fluid, which started out red but turned dark as it mixed with the old fluid. It took a kid who barely knew what hewas doing about 15 minutes and costs $110.00.

It seems that service has taken a back seat to profit nowadays.I wish I could find a local shop that took pride in their work and did things right, instead of taking the easiest, cheapest way out to maximize profit.

Corporate greed is killing America!!

Thanks, I feel better now.

I did that flush thing a few years ago on my Monte. Talk about a waste of $100. They didn't even remove the tranny pan or change the filter when they did it either. So after getting my car back I got just down the road and smelled tranny fluid burning. I turned around, went back to the dealership and had them see what the problem was. After they examined it they said my pan gasket was leaking. He also went on to say that he couldn't replace it for free because they didn't touch that area of the car. They didn't explain to me how the damn flush worked to begin with. Had I know they weren't going to pull off the pan and change the gasket and filter, I would have never done that stupid flush. So I ended up getting screwed on that. Half way home I had to stop to put in 3 quarts of fluid because the tranny started slipping. After I got home I borrowed my mom's car, went to the auto parts store, bought several quarts of fluid, a filter and pan gasket and did the job all over again. So I probably spent $140 on just getting my damn fluid changed when I could have just spend $40 and done it at home.
