Change or don't change tranny fluid at 87k?
Bought a 2004 SS with 87k. Fluid looks dark. Shifting is perfect with no issues. Will it be risky to change it now? Should I tell express oil to replace the filter and flush it or just drain and fill?

Absolutely one of the first thingsI did was a fluid overhaul. Drop the pan, change the tranny fluid and filter, refill with Dexron VI.
I would also do an oil and filter change (who knows when that was done last)
And flush the coolant and refill.
Check the air filter, and replace the fuel filter as well.

Trans fluid change intervals are subject to driving environment and conditions. For me, it's 100,000 miles (or sooner).
At your mileage, it's completely worth doing.
BUT, never EVER have the trans fluid flushed unless you want to gamble on that giving you trans problems.
ALWAYS pan drop and filter change.
And for the peeps who think trans fluid/filter changes are the kiss of death.... My '94 Grand Am has 215,000 miles, trans fluid/filter has been changed on two different times by yours truly. Trans works 100% perfectly. It's all about the maintenance.

I agree with the above. Change your fluids, but unless you anticipate winning the lottery, DO NOT flush the transmission. Changing it is needed, and you're close enough to 100,000 miles to go ahead and get it out of the way. But do not flush the transmission as you're asking for disaster if you do.

WITH 165,000 ON MINE......I GET A FLUID AND FILTER CHANGE ONCE A YEAR......WHETHER IT NEEDS IT OR NOT....
My bud owns a trans shop so i know its done right!
I wouldnt trust a oil change shop to do work on my trans regardless...
even if it is a fluid filter change....if they use there flushing machine its a reverse fluid unit and tends to crush the filter in the trans! (some are plastic)......
Same thing with the truck with all the towing i do....once a year religiously!
