Default Unusual Craigslist Monte

Thought this was strange. Pictures don't look particularly unusual, but take a minute to read the paper note.

https://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/c...391480829.html

Few things that I thought were odd:
-Complete restoration (supposedly similar to frame off level) on such a new car.
-If everything is accurate, he's got to have $25k+ in work between replacing so much stuff, engine and trans builds, and a full blown paint job.
-The dyno numbers are suspiciously high for the mods.
-The usual "only 500 miles on the build" which always makes me super suspicious on a brand new modded engine build.
-Go out of your way to say which generation it is, then get the generation wrong.
-Installed LS 243 heads (ie the stock ones, lol - maybe he was hoping the person reading it wasn't overly familiar with LS heads and thought it was an upgrade on the LS4).

To be fair, if all of that stuff was really replaced (and done right) and the trans build checks out, then it doesnt seem to be too crazy of a starting price for negotiation, especially in today's market.

Surly you can't be serious. I noticed the generation thing too.

I'm suspicious that he posted no pics of the front of the car. The rest of the body probably swaps out easily, but the front would clearly indicate if it's an '06 or not.

what I always think is a possible scam is when the photo's for the interior are so clear and resolution is good and then you go outside to take the Car shot (this is the seller shot) the resolution is horrible the back ground appears like it might be taken in AZ?
The trunk lid has the lip spoiler that usually came on the SS version of the 06/07 that I have seen.
But I think I would avoid the thing! it is most likely a scam.

So if you look closely on the interior shot, the center console is 06-07. In my book all that was really done here is slapping on some Intimidator badging, head rests, rims, changing the tail lights to 00-05 style, some stripes, and a pic of a letter (why not text in the description) confirming it is a fan made tribute car that calls out the wrong generation of the car and so few pics of a car that according to this letter should be glorious. My guess about the letter and pics, someone not computer savvy enough. At least they are NOT trying to pass this off as a true Intimidator. As for this "restoration", some pics to help validate the work would have been nice. Probably a decent car, but to ask that type of money on this car, they certainly need help better presenting it.

I read the article and from what I gathered not much was done for a "Frame off" restoration. A brake job, struts and axel's. No mention of hose's (brake , coolant,AC,or fuel) no mention of replacing and suspension or cradle bushings. Nothing on steel fuel or brake lines or gas tank, steering components, rack and pinion or the hoses. Exhaust and radiator was also skipped , knowing nothing has been addressed to the heater core and evaporator. Not trying to pick it apart , but lots of things were left out.

I think many of us picked a little. But I also don't think any of us insulted the car. It is a fan-made Dale Senior tribute car. I agree, for claims of a frame off resto (which the person recognized it is a unibody car), so many questions. Honestly, a listing like this should have had a ton of good pictures with it (much like I see people do on the site BringATrailer). If that car is a supposed full restore, I would be showing pics from the process and things like how outstanding the under chassis is among many other aspects. The way the full restore comment presented a bunch of "stuff" sounds like a fancy way of saying "I recently sunk a lot of money into maintenance items".

I'm also wondering about the part "no scammer's, legal action will be taken". Does that mean he's turning himself in the the local police department 😂 ?

That's the vibe I got too.

Would be interesting to hear the back story here. I wonder what would cause someone to sink that kind of money into this thing just to turn around and sell it 500 miles later. Even if it was all DIY labor, I can't imagine he'd stand to make any money with all the materials in it - especially paint / engine / trans work.

I wonder if it goes back to your point about not being computer savvy? May have asked a friend or family member to list it who isnt familiar with selling cars/ the work that went into it.
