Safety glasses on the job...... New policy
Today I start a new policy at my job. All persons must wear safety glasses in designated areas...... It's really not a big deal but I was just wondering if any of the members here have the same policies at their work site. All safety glasses must meet ANSI ratings etc. I have never worn glasses/sunglasses for a very long period of time, let alone an 8 hour a day job. Are there any types of safety glasses that anyone prefers/suggests for someone who has never worn glasses before? I've been wearing a pair for the last week or so at home and I have come to find they aren't very comfortable at times. I wear a baseball hat pretty much 24/7 and the glasses have a tendency to interfere with it. If any of you have any experiences with safety glasses please respond, thanks.........
Maybe I'll start a poll.........

I don't need to wear safety glasses. But if I had the choice, I'd wear sunglasses all day long. I guess I kinda don't like the light - it hurts my eyes. I sell safety glasses at the parts store and there are glasses with indoor mirror tint that work fine in low light and look cool. I had a pair for rollerblading because the bike trail in London passes through some foresty shady areas but bug deflection is a must!
Looking cool is a must too!

My job requires me to wear them at all times
At first I hated them but I got used to them I guess. Not the only complaint I have is glare at night or fogging up in rain.
The company supplys our glasses so I don't have a preference on brand I wear whatever the company gets

Chris:
Heres what I prefer in a pair of safety glasses..
Radians ® Cuatro ™ Safety Glasses - GEMPLER'S
They are safety rated and I think there kind of stylish...
I have also purchased safety glasses for riding from the Harley Dealership.
That I have also used on the job... I too use to wear a ball cap and they never interfered...
Just something to consider.. Instead of the "company" issued ones.
I also hated those ugly heavy 1 size fit all ....
I have also purchased ones from snap on.. They have interchangeable lenses... I liked those also!..
So, now you have options..

I've been waring glasses since I was 7. So it's not a big deal that it's required at my job. Plus I get my glasses through the VA. One free pair a year. They are shatter proof. Then my company pays for a pair of Safety glasses with the splash guards on the sides. So I'm good to go!

I have to wear safety glasses and earplugs when on the shop floor. I hate the earplugs. After a while my ears start to sweat and makes me feel like I need to clean my eats again even when they are clean

I've worn glasses all my life until I got LASIK last July. Since I've worked for the company I'm at now (left a Bank of 11 years of service for a manufacturing company the last 2-3+ years now), it's steel toes shoes, ear plugs and safety glasses on the shop floor. Not optional.
A couple years ago, I was messing with the Dremel and a throttle body for my Monte. I ended up getting a metal shard in the eye (got past my prescription glasses and I was not wearing safety glasses). Since, i made it a point to wear eye protection (it hurt and the bill from the ER visit was not cheap, but luckily, no long term effect). Now that I don't wear prescription glasses, I don't like crawling under a car without safety glasses on (too much crap to fall in the eye).

Thanks for the responses......
David, those Radian glasses look pretty cool, I might get me a set if the company provided ones suck real bad....
I usually wear glasses when working outdoors weed whacking so I can understand the need for safety.
