Was it an amatuer radio license? If you remember your call sign you can always check.

I've been an avid SWL/Scanner listener for years.
Before buying a scanner you need to do a little research and find out what frequencies are being used in your area, and if they are simplex, trunked, spread spectrum, etc. and/or what protocol is being used. A scanner that only receives simplex will do you no good if what you want to listen to is on a trunked system.
Another thing to look for is if the scanner steps are variable and can be programmed. On Jan 1, 2013 the frequencies between 150MHz and 512MHz are being switched over to narrow band. If the scanner steps can't be reprogrammed then you may not be able to tune to in your favorite frequencies. There's a lot of scanners on sale right now for dirt cheap. The problem is come Jan. 2013 a lot of them will be obsolete as far as UHF/VHF reception is concerned so pick and choose wisely.
A license is no longer required for 11m (CB) and if it was an amateur license it has long since expired. An amateur license is valid for 10 years.

Stumpmi: Doesn't look like it will work on my old Cobra.
Guess I'll stay on the Kindle and listen to the Wayne county one. Interesting channel
