Car dealers are out to make as much as they possibly can. A lot of them will price vehicles around 25% (or more) over book value. That way it's a win/win situation for them. If they sell the car at asking price they've made a huge profit. If they negotiate a lower price (something they anticipate) they still sell the car for a profit. KBB retail value for the car (in excellent condition) sold through a dealer is only $9400 and they're asking $11K. Considering the car is not in excellent condition (and most dealers are willing to sell a vehicle below book value) I'd say you have at least 2-$3K worth of room to negotiate. If you really like the car and it passes your inspection/test drive I'd offer them $8K. Even if they paid book value for the trade in they probably only paid around $5500 for it. At 8K they'll still be making a tidy profit. Give it a shot - all they can do is say no.

Hi `Keane, I agree with what the member's have posted...
I would also check on your insurance cost `if you decide to purchase ? + maintaining + lower MPG's etc.
It's sad if the car owns you & you don't have enough $'s to enjoy it. I'm sure that you are giving it a lot of thought..
Good Luck on your decision & we wish you the best..

At the dealer now. Trying to get em down. But i don't think they're gonna budge too much. Hopefully i get some off. We shall see. Test drive checked out well. Car is clean and rust free. One other thing, it does come with a 3 month 3000 mile warranty on power train and safety.

You should be able to make them do a "Tax+Title" out the door price. If you are willing to bite at that ask price, see if they can do "Out the Door" for maybe $10,500 (at least then you walk out dropping the price just a tad, not as much as many of us feel but at least you got something).
BTW - See if they have the certificate that goes with that (if it's a "true" collector piece YOU WANT THAT, if anything to at least justify the high cost as GM does NOT reproduce that).
