New Odd law's for 2013
Welcome to 2013, wow where does time go to? Anyway came across some new laws taking effect this year. Listing some vehicle related ones........
1.In California, more than 800 laws are about to take effect, including one that allows driverless vehicles on the road. But a human must be present in the passenger's seat of all computer-driven cars.
2.As for those Californians who are still driving, you can now whip out your proof of insurance on your smart phone if police pull you over.
3.Another unusual law taking effect at midnight is Public Act 97-743 in Illinois. This law imposes a fine of $1,000 on anyone who pops a wheelie on a motorcycle while speeding.
4. While this law might upset some motorcyclists, the State of Illinois is now giving them a free pass to go through red lights. Motorcycles are often not heavy enough to trigger magnetic sensors at traffic lights to inform them a vehicle has pulled up. Motorcyclists usually have to wait for a car to pull up before the light turns green.
The new bill states that after a "reasonable" amount of time, the motorcycle could pass the red light if the coast is clear. The law doesn't apply to cities where the population exceeds 2 million people.
5.As of Jan. 1, it will NO LONGER BE ILLEGAL to flash your headlights in Florida to warn drivers about a speeding trap set by police

I saw those on the news last night also. But I thought #5 was the other way around. I thought is was becoming illegal to flash your headlights to warn of a speed trap. Perhaps I heard wrong?

Flashing your headlights to alert oncoming drivers that police are lurking on the roadside ahead will no longer be against the law in Florida.
A provision legalizing such speed trap warnings is part of a wide-ranging motor vehicle law going into effect Tuesday.
Now if we can just get Space to stop flashing everyone in Florida...

the first one is because of those google? computer controlled cars they have driving around in CA
that's because the pd's have nothing better to do and make a ton of money entrapping people.

"3.Another unusual law taking effect at midnight is Public Act 97-743 in Illinois. This law imposes a fine of $1,000 on anyone who pops a wheelie on a motorcycle while speeding."
That's a no-brainer...just don't exceed the speed limit while popping a wheelie.
Washington has some pretty silly laws for the road including:
All motor vehicles must be preceded by a man carrying a red flag (daytime) or a red lantern (nighttime) fifty feet in front of said vehicle.
It is mandatory for a motorist with criminal intentions to stop at the city limits and telephone the chief of police as he is entering the town.
When two trains come to a crossing, neither shall go until the other has passed.

They are also mandating a lot of nannies in cars. Every car is going to HAVE to have electronic stability control and such.
The days of buying a sports car for cheap without nannies is over.

The motorcycle law regarding red lights makes a ton of sense. I know in TN if there is a traffic jam, motorcycles are allowed to pass on the shoulder at a slow speed because (as most who either ride or know about bikes) know that many bikes are air cooled and will overheat if they sit still for too long.
I don't ride (but I'd like to start riding soon) and I see a ton of sense in that one. Doubt you'll ever see me on a sportbike though. I like those big cruisers.
The reason the FL law was changed is that the previous law was ruled to be unconstitutional. It was a ploy by PDs to gain revenue, plain and simple.
BTW I know this is an old thread but I didn't remember seeing it and was doing a search to see how many other members ride.
