Need Help Identifying Ford V8 Engine
Hey all,
My buddy has a Ford V8 engine in storage that I need any help I can get identifying what it is. Unfortunately all I have are these couple of pictures; apparently the Fram PH8A oil filter was used on almost all Ford engines from 1960-1980. I'm not anticipating much with so little information, but any and all info will be much appreciated.

Okay I forwarded Steveo the pictures, he will get back to me tonight if he can. Said it will be impossible to tell what it really is as Ford built so many motors. What he would really like in order to give you the best information is the casting numbers off of the engine block itself. Anyway I will get back to you as soon as he tells me what he believes the motor possibly is. And if you can get me the casting numbers we can really dial it in for you. take care.

I was going to say start looking for cast numbers
From the 5bolt valve covers and Google looks to be a Windsor but Windsor what is the question

No need, Jerry... I'm right here.
The valve cover bolt up design is a dead give away that it's a Ford small block design.. the valve covers are far too short to be a 260 or 289.... so it most likely has the taller rocker arms under neath, and that means it could be a 302... but the intake looks too wide to be a 302.... I'm thinking 351 Windsor, which was one of the greatest Ford engines ever produced in my opinion....
For exampel, here is a 351W
And here is a 302....
Th ebest way I know to tell the difference is that because the deck height is higher on a 351, if you can put a socket and ratchet on the bottom thermostat bolt without hitting that water pump, then it's a 351. If it requires a wrench, then it's a 302....
Maybe this site can help you figure it out... the next best thing is going to be to look for the casting numbers on the intake.... I believe the casting of a 302 has a different "deck height" for the intake so a 351 head nad intake set won't go on a 302 anyway, despite that the rest of the block is really the same.
