Thank you everyone for your words. Jonny means the world to me and it just kills me knowing that something is wrong with him.
Space, as always, you out did yourself.

JJ I am very sorry to hear that little Jonny isn't well. I also grew up with acid reflux problems. Honestly it wasn't too bad. It sucked on my part, but so far no long term effects have hit me.
I come from a family history of Diabetes, Crohn's, and Cancer. I used to take Claritin twice a day, and I was on a limited diet. I had to stay away from acidic things like oranges / citrus, milk, chocolate, alcohol (it was funny that it was on the list and I was 12), tomato (VERY hard for an italian to do), plus some other things I can't remember.
It was bad that I used to use Coffee Mate creamer instead of Milk in my cereal. Tasted awful, but I got used to it. Slowly but surely I started to get back in control of everything though. This was IN NO WAY anything permanent. My body was changing and I couldn't process certain things. In about 1-2 years I finally started eating normally, but I kept my milk intake to strictly Skim. Now I'm up to 1% (I cook with 2%) and I'm leading a very normal life.
I hope the best and the same for Jonny. It's hard, but if he keeps with the diet and the pills he shouldn't get any lasting effects from this and it will hopefully go away.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family though.
