Robyn, 2 good rules of thumb to go by here.
1. Trust your instincts.
2. Hope for the best, and expect the worst, and you will alays be prepared and not surprised.
Keeping those 2 premises in mind, be prepared to get fired (HOPEFULLY you won't), and try to get some family members to help out. Tell them your situation with your parents AND your job. You're not talking a ton of money here.
