And then there's the classic left hand turn with right hand indicator on...pure genious.
The indicator automatically turns off after a turn. This would turn it off traveling in a straight line. How would you signal ahead of a turn, if the sensor automatically turned it off? I would think having the indicator shut off after 1 mile of driving would be the best bet.

If someone was traveling under the speed limit and a car was approaching from behind it would (after checking for clearence) automatically steer the slower car into the right hand lane allowing the car doing the speed limit to pass. If it was a 1 lane road it would pull the car over to the side of the road until traffic cleared. This would eliminate having to follow someone doing 25mph in a 40mph zone while they're talking on the cell phone or the person in the passenger seat.
This technology would move a car automatically? No thank you. If you care so much, you have a horn.

Making someone go into a shoulder, could be sending someone on to black ice, they could be going slow due to inclement weather, etc.

How would the sensor check for EVERYTHING in sight and determine if it's okay to move over? What if there is a big pot-hole?

You know who they are. They sit at the intersection staring at you as you approach. They wait until you're 5 or 6 car lengths from the intersection then pull right out in front of you. This desirable device would sense oncoming traffic and lock the brakes on the stopped vehicle so they couldn't pull out in front of you. This particular device should be mandatory on all new vehicles.
Also fantastic if they are about to get rear-ended and they can't avoid anything!

My car has none of this fancy stuff, future drivers will become so dependent on such technology they wont be able to function without it, making for worse drivers on our roads. Food for thought...
Good point.

To add to your case, consider the 2012 cars compared to the 1955-57 cars.

My point being, with the differences in these years how could you expect someone to be able to drive a car of this vintage and safely on the streets?

The technology exists and i believe there are cars that drive themselves. Just nothing mass Produced. I've gotten my taste of carbureted engines. Our boat is carbeurated and can be fun to start.
