(AP) - THE STORY: Toyota Motor Corp. has nearly overtaken General Motors Corp. as the global auto sales leader. GM has held the t i t le since 1931.
THE NUMBERS: GM said Wednesday it sold 9,369,524 vehicles worldwide in 2007, while Toyota said it sold 9.366 million.
THE REASON: Analysts say Toyota caught up to GM largely because the Japanese automaker has done well on GM's home turf in the U.S., whereas GM has seen U.S.
sales decline. But both have expanded sales overseas, where the future winner is likely to be decided.

`Jeff, thanks for your post. It's very sad [X(]
I sure hope that we can find new leaders to take us back
to the top ~ Where we should belong....
Now it seems to be Leadership to Greed/Power
Not Leadership to Succeed.

Haven't the been saying for awhile that Toyota is right behind GM? As much as it pains me to admit it, I wouldn't mind GM being displaced and make them think about even higher quality cars. I've heard a few rumors that GM's cutting out some cars in hopes of better quality sales with fewer better quality vehicles, if that makes sense.
