Agree 100%
You can't compare a 6th or 7th gen Monte Carlo to a Corvette. Corvette is GM's premium sports car. And designed to be a sports car. The Monte isn't. It's considered Luxury Sport.
Don't get me wrong. I love Monte Carlos. That's why I'm on Monte Carlo sites, and not Corvette sites. But sometimes you just got to face reality.

...especially since car makers and auto writers tend to dump cars into categories, regardless of drivetrain. This makes absolutely NO sense. A FWD 2011 Celebrity/Lumina/impala should NOT be in the same category/segment as, say, a RWD 2011 Dodge Charger or a RWD 2011 Genesis. Yet, car makers and automotive writers/magazines/publications lump them all together.
*shrugs*
I've never hated FWD (I've owned 2, after all), just disliked it for 2 main reasons.
1 ... Comments about FWD/RWD in winter and how FWD is so superior in snow/ice, etc. If that's the case, EVERYONE MUST have walked EVERYWHERE in the 50s/60s/70s when the bulk of the cars were RWD....
2 ... Ch#$r%*et's history of placing heritage names on FWD cars. It would've been interesting to see the reaction if the new Camaro had been FWD, instead of RWD ... or if the Chevelle nameplate had been placed on a FWD car. Give 'em time ... may be done yet.
Instead ... the Nova was on the FWD Toyota Nova/Ch#$r%*et Corolla, the Malibu was placed (and continues) on the Corsica replacement vehicle, and the Monte Carlo and Impala nameplates were placed on Celebrity/Lumina replacements.
According to the book _Chevrolet: The Complete History_ [copyright 1996 by Publications International LTD], on page 348: "With the new Lumina coupe and sedan effectively replacing their Celebrity counterparts...." And, on page 359: "Taking the place of the aging Celebrity sedan was the Lumina sedan ... a coupe version followed in the fall."
Also, the Lumina shared types (Eurosport), dashboards (flat/horizontal), tail lights (3 square on each side, across the back panel, more or less) and FWD with the Celebrity.....
In addition ... the Monte Carlo was the only one of the cousin names (Buick Regal, Olds Cutlass Supreme, Pontiac Grand Prix) to NOT be slapped on a FWD car IMMEDIATELY after the RWD versions ended in 1987/1988.
With the Lumina redesign in 1995, the mc name was placed on the coupe. Then, when the next redesign occurred in 2000, the impala name was placed on the sedan.
(and)
Not if you actually KNOW how to DRIVE. I have NEVER ... repeat NEVER ... been in a ditch in my RWD cars. EVER.
It is about KNOWING how to handle YOUR car, regardless of the drivetrain.

The Caprice Classic is quickly becoming my favorite car ... partially because the nameplate has never seen FWD.

IMHO (being someone who has owned nothing but fwd cars) will still have to side with the rwd people on this.
Now, before you get all angry, let me explain.
I LOVE my 5th gen and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, but upon reseearch, im realizing the transmission is crap.
yeah its great for if you want some addons, but when you start tearing into it, you have to build the transmission and im still seeing people going through them like butter. So my retrospect on that is, fwwd cars aren't meant for high power applications. Im not saying it can't be done, go on 3800pro.com. there are numerous fwd cars that run 8's.
can you imagine how bad a$$ it would be if gm HAD made the 5th, 6th, and 7th genRWD?
I do feel that the only reason my car had 200 hp is because gm didn't know too muuch about building fwd trannies to reliably handle more power, they even claimed back then that on a concept for the 3.4 lq1 that they built it to have somewhere in the ballpark of 350 hp and it needed a truck transmission because it was shredding the fwd ones.
That being said, I also believe the reason so many kids drive hondas (not brand bashing, just stating the obvious as example) is because it takes more skill to drive a rwd car than a fwd. I can't count the number of times I have seen some stupid kid in daddys mustang or camaro who ran it through a fence because they floored it trying to show out for their buddies.
floor an fwd and hold the steering wheel straight and it'll go straight unless it peglegs, floor a rwd and hold the steering wheel straight and floor it and it WILL take off or head for a ditch.
Like I have said before, I wouldn't trade Eleanor for the world, but I will one day convert her.
