Drive Less, Live Longer ?
I say no and lets just make it harder for stupid people to get driver licenses and put breathalyzers in all cars for when smart people get stupid
Speeding laws have little effect. MOST people drive at a speed they consider safe, regardless of the limit. The remaining minority of driver's either a) religiously follow the posted limit all the time or b) speed excessively. Group 'B' are the one's who kill themselves and others.
There was actually a study from somewhere in Europe (wish I could find it again), where speeding laws are more liberal that showed no increase in accidents or deaths with higher limits. Put the limit to 100MPH on a windy road and most people won't drive it because they feel unsafe.
Low speed limits are a revenue source for the government. That is all.

I agree with what some have posted above- some people speed all the time, and a change in posted limit will have no effect other than on their ticket size.
There is no doubt that higher speeds yield worse crashes, in the kinetic energy formula- the velocity component is squared- so doubling your speed more than doubles the amount of energy you have. However, with lower speed limits, can we handle the extra traffic congestion? (and in that, might the number of accidents go up in some places from the extra congestion during lane changes and other maneuvers)
Personally, I don't ever speed regularly. If there is some pressing reason why I must- then I do; but I make it a habit not to speed (also helps that we have local speed cameras, and I don't like having to worry about my exact speed going through them in the mornings headed to work).
However, overall- I think if traffic safety is such a big concern; there are other ways to reduce the number of accidents. One would be providing more training for drivers- both initially, and maybe with re-certification testing and training.
Another would be becoming significantly more strict on drivers under the influence. I've personally absolutely had my fill of hearing about drunk drivers killing whole innocent families and such, and still frequently hear about people driving home drunk and thinking its 'cool'. Make even the first offense more strict than is worth it- would you still consider driving home drunk if the first offense were 15 days in jail and a $1000+ fine? The penalty should be stiff enough that people are scared to do it for fear of getting caught.
Also, drivers today are too distracted- messing with their phones while making calls; sending text messages, etc. Maybe they could initiate a push for all cars to be made with built in blue-tooth hands free devices or something? Also, drastically increase the fine for texting while driving so people get the point- if you're looking at the screen to see what you're typing or who you're texting, you're not paying attention to the road.
I just think there are a lot of traffic safety areas that could be addressed that will have just as much impact, if not more than, lowering the speed limit.

...Thanks member's for your post/feedback/comments.The majority of member's voted they do not want lower limits on speed.
I wonder why they make/produce vehicles to go over 200 MPH+ ? When we are all limited on how fast we can `go ? Where can you safely drive a vehicle over 130 + MPH ? Without risking your life or other's ?
Good Thing we don't have a Energy Crisis ?

It's a good thing we don't have a fuel shortage...Even though the US uses 1/3 of all fuel produced in our World ? We still want our 1000 + Horsepower rides
We still get gas to feed our monster engines @ around $3 a gallon, while other countries are paying more then double the price...We are a Hurry `Up and Wait Country.....& We want `it Now,
screw the future.....Are we spoiled ? Go `Speed

I confess: I am a violator, but I'm changing my views on many things during my time on
