Nevada takes the top spot for most dangerous state for the fourth year in a row; North Dakota ranks as the safest.
By David Ellis, CNNMoney.com staff writerMarch 22 2007: 12:05 PM EDT
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- For the fourth year in a row, Nevada has earned the dubious distinction of being the most dangerous state in America, according to a survey published Thursday.
Based on annual statistics, Nevada had the highest crime rate among the 50 states across the country, according to Morgan Quitno Press, an independent researcher in Lawrence, Kansas, which publishes the rankings annually.

"The story for Nevada remains the same as in previous years," Scott Morgan, president of Morgan Quitno Press, remarked in the report. "As a rapidly growing state, it struggles with crime and other problems. It has some of the highest murder, robbery and motor vehicle theft rates in the country."
The survey, which did not include the District of Columbia, looked at rates from 2005 for six major crimes including murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary and auto theft, comparing those to the national average.
Neighboring Southwestern states New Mexico and Arizona joined Nevada as second and third most dangerous states across the country, followed by Maryland and Tennessee.
North Dakota ranked as the safest state this year, making it the 10th time in the last 14 years the state has earned the honor.
Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and Wyoming also ranked as some of the safest states, according to the survey.

Ignorance is bliss

Not knowing something is often more comfortable than knowing it.

‡ This proverb resembles “What you don’t know cannot hurt you.” It figures in a passage from “On a Distant Prospect of Eton College,” by the eighteenth-century English poet Thomas Gray: “Where ignorance is bliss, / ‘Tis folly to be wise.’”

What are the most Dangerous places to drive your Monte Carlo inCanada ?[:-]Below is the lastest information I could find2005Canada's national crime rate, based on incidents reported to police, fell5% last year— despite increases in serious crimes such as homicide, attempted murder, serious assaults and robbery.
Declines in non-violent offences such as counterfeiting, break-ins and auto thefts accounted for most of the decline in the crime rate, which fell in every province and territory. The homicide rate increased4% to the highest level in almost a decade. However, the overall violent crime rate was unchanged, while the property crime rate fell6%. The rate of drug offences declined in2005as did overall youth crime.
The national crime rate has been relatively stable since1999, with last year's5% decrease offsetting a6% hike in2003. The crime rate declined during the1990s, after rising throughout most of the1960s,1970s and1980s.
Crime rate down in all provinces, territories and most cities
Crime rates fell in all provinces and territories last year, with the largest provincial declines in Manitoba and New Brunswick, each down8%.
Violent crime rates declined in the Atlantic provinces, but they were relatively stable in Central and Western Canada.
The highest provincial crime rates continued to be seen in the West. Saskatchewan recorded the highest overall rate, followed by British Columbia and Manitoba. Rates were lowest in Ontario and Quebec.

Good God! I live in WI and it ranked 42 on the list. This is from the state that has had the most infamous serial killers (Ed Gein, Jeffery Dahmer).

I think it might have to do that practially everyone in the state hunts so you know they all have guns, hence lower crime rate.
