Default desk top dyno ?

hey anybody here use a desk top dyno ?
i put in my info for a pull just to be curious and it shows alot lower that it should
are they off by alot or is there somthing that i am doing wrong ?
because i know with my setup i chould have over 500hp easy and it shows around 400
i built my motor acording to a chevy hiperformance build or the impersonator 406 with little diffrences with i thought would help performance more compression 195cc heads and they use 180cc i have 800cfm carb to there 750cfm
cam is pretty much the same they used 230/236 with 1.6 rockers and i used 240/246 with 1.5's
there should not be that big of a diffrence but i would think that i would have a little bit more
what do you guys think ???
thanks

While we have a couple techs here, LS1Tech website is loaded with High Performance techs, and the forum is broken down into engine groups.

Hi Jean Louis ,I don't think that a desktop simulator can really givea true reading, but maybe an estimate.I've never used one, but I found the link for all to read. You still have some MONSTER POWER : )Happy Holidays, EnJoyfrom, `Spacehttp://www.proracingsim.com/desktopdyno.htm

is that desktop dyno showing power to the wheels or power to the crank? i'd never trust a computer to something like that.... how cna it know? another thing, advertised horsepower for like "pick up 8 hp" and "pick up 15 hp" and "pick up 13hp" with this part... it's not going to work that way. if you put those 3 items on your car, its not going to pick up 36 hp. that is the very most you could ever pick up if you set up the car just for that part. those 3 parts together might be good for 20 hp. just because all that stuff you put on would add up to 500 hp on a calculator, that don't mean its going to add up to 500 hp when you put it on the real engine. sorry fi this bursts your bubble or anything, i may not be telling you something you odn't already know.

take a look at this articals from chevy hiperformance this is where i got the idea for my build take a look at what they dynoed for power !! pretty good if you ask me so with the changes i did with my built i tink it should be good for a couple more horses right ?
i was just more wondering for that desk top dyno it looks like a cool program but if it that much off then i dont think it worth much to me

i am not sure should be at the crank i would imagine because at the wheels would be hard to guess because diffrent trans take more power to turn and the same with ths diff.
