So recently my 16 yo daughter started driving an 01 Monte Carlo SS, #3 Dale Earnheart Intimidator Edition.

Last night, We all watched the Dale Earnheart movie. I was a huge fan of his and I saw some short stories I'd never heard before. Two of my favorites were not in the movie though. The good thingis that now she understands more about the man behind the car.

The focus of the movie was him finally winning the Daytona 500

I think I saw that movie on Speed Channel this year. The day before Daytona. Good movie. I forgot Michael Waltrip won the 2001 Daytona race.

Your daughter's 2001 Monte is a Dale Earnhardt edition? Do you mean the 2002 edition? Or is it a 2001 that was customized into a Dale tribute car?

 

I think there was a lot more to Dale Sr. than finally winning that Daytona 500... some see that as the pinacle of his career, but he was really into his twilight years... the pinnacle for me being that final championship. He was starting to get some of that luster back.. but I dispute that he was about to win some 8th championship. Given, he ran liek 2nd the year before... but he was starting to get a bit like Jeff Gordon today... just close but no cigar. We can speculate all day long... but still...

I hope you're enjoying the car, glad she could learn some of the history behind the car. I came along at the tail end of Earnhardt Sr's career, and am pretty much among the last to have any appreciation for him because I was in about 5th grade when he died.

Thanks for you comments on the movie, I haven't seen it yet though. Maybe one of these years.... I think I need to see it to live up to my title as MCF NASCAR Historian.

 

Yeah when I first read this earlier I was like a 01 edition?!? & yup those dale films are amazing...I have a ton of Dale Earnhardt related stuff recorded and on DVD. They're all amazing but they always make me cry for one reason or another =(
