Custom 2010 Camaro Concepts + More : )
I just got my latest issue of Hot Rod magazine, and the red LS7 Camaro made the cover! Seems these babies were the creation of GMPD, headed by Mike Copeland, in the TOP SECRET Building 27 at GM's proving grounds at Milford, MI.
The blue Grand Am Koni Challenge car will be comparable to what Ford has done with the Miller Cup Rustang, in producing a race only version, no VIN # car strictly for road racing. The black one and the JR car, it's hard to say. They are concept cars, like the Bumblebee Camaro last year.
The LS7 on the other hand, is something that they put together just to show it could be done, concept only, a "COPO" Camaro that will never happen. BUT, what about companies, or maybe dealers, doing conversions? Mallett, Performance Autoworks, and Wade's Garage, among others are doing the LS V8 conversions in the Pontiac Solstices and Saturn Skys right now! I personally seen, heard, and followed Wade's LS7 427 Solstice this summer. WOW! 500+hp in a 3,000 lb car! The Camaros will have the LS series engines all ready in place, and the LS7 AND the LS9 have GM part numbers RIGHT NOW! Just a matter of having the right people, or the ambitious do-it-yourselfer make the conversions.
The editorial from Rob Kinnan in this issue of Hot Rod specifically addresses this issue, and in fact, he called it "The Yenko Lives!" Berger Chevrolet, north of me in Grand Rapids, MI, is the LAST of the original muscle car dealers around. I'm looking for them, or others to put the simple swap of putting the ZR1's powerful LS9 engine between the cradle rails of this new Camaro, add their badge, make a buck, and WHA-LA! The LATEST AND GREATEST CAMARO IS ON THE ROAD! AND the MOST POWERFUL! Limited production, ultra rare, MADE IN MICHIGAN POWER! NOW THATS WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT! The LS9 Camaro LIVES! Look for Motion to come out with this one! 600 hp? Good start! Look for 700, or even 800hp from these beasts! We have people talking about squeezing 850hp from these little 2.0L LNF turbo engines in the Solstice GXPs and Sky Redlines. (GM is around 1,500hp!) Who is going to be the 1st to put a TWIN TURBO LS7 into limited production? Maybe ZZPerformance? There are MANY other GREAT turbo shops around. Look for 1,000+hp from THESE cars! SOON! I'm after the LS7 in our Solstice GXP. What are YOU going to have built JUST FOR YOU? There's an LS9 out there with YOUR name on it!
