Well, GM set the pricing back when the Canadian dollar was worth about 60 cents U.S.

Funny how now that the Canadian dollar is at par with the U.S. dollar, GM's prices in Canada didn't drop at all.

The original window sticker for my 2004 Monte has the MSRP at $43,510.00 Canadian. And that was in 2004! Kinda curious what a junior edition sold for in the U.S.

But I think you get my point. Sorry for hi-jacking your thread Space.

I suppose their thinking is simple. If they keep the prices high, they make more profit. Plain and simple. As long as the other car companies do the same, there's no incentive for them to lower their prices.

I'm sure they have some convincing bullsh*t excuse. But in the end, it's all profit driven.

Personally, I think GM Ford and Chrysler are slow to learn anything. All three came close to bankruptcy. Ford being in the best shape of the three. And the three didn't learn a darn thing from it, other than eliminating half their line-up.

In these economic times, people are buying what they can afford. People won't buy a 80-90 thousand dollar Corvette (Canadian price). Instead they'll buy a used Camaro, Mustang, import or some other car, and do some performance mods to it.

In regards to the Corvette in general. GM needs to do something about the Corvette, or it will end up as another car on the chopping block. GM either needs to keep the Corvette as it is and make it more affordable to the masses. Or keep the price as is, and greatly improve the quality of the car.

I hear a lot of complaints that the Corvette is filled with cheap looking plastic. GM wants the Vette to compete with the European super cars. To do that, you have to match the quality of the European super cars.

Anyone who can afford to buy a brand new Corvette, can also afford to buy a better car than a Corvette.
