I guess it really does depend on how good a camera they used. Small imperfections can be disguised by the use of lower resolution camera and/or uploaded picture quality.

Obviously if there's major chipping or damage, he would've had to photoshop the pictures to make that go away.

Either way, on to the next car. Good Luck Jerry.

Sorry to hear you wasted all that time on it! Best bet would be to have sellers get you a lot of close ups before driving any distance

I know my car has plenty of imperfections that you can't see in probably 95% of my pictures but if you get close up you can start to see the few paint chips and a coupler scratches. For example, my Pace Car badge is missing almost all of the clear/gel coat and looks like total crap in person, yet it all of my pictures it looks just fine.

Unless you have a really good camera that can get you larger than full screen pics (normally a DSLR would get you these results), you probably won't see any paint chips or scratches in photos of the whole vehicle. Even the way you upload/share the image will have an effect as it gets re-sized and uploaded, etc.

I've seen plenty of cars for sale online that look nothing like the quality of the vehicle in person, it sucks but most car dealerships don't invest in a great camera

I think it was probably just poor quality pics with a 30 dollar digital camera. I have stone chips on the front of my car and they don't usually show up in pics. Better luck on the next one.

I have to agree with these kind of statements. My car has many imperfections yet you cant see them in pictures really. Same thing happen to me when I went to look at my first Ram back then. I saw it online was a 98 with only 98,000 miles and they wanted $6,200. I'd worked with the dealer before so I called him and asked if it was still avaliable and if I could come drive it. He said anytime just call first and let me know. Anyway the pictures of it looked great. Clean interior and looked pretty nice. So I got there and the truck had a flat tire. Wouldnt start until he gave it a bit of gas and the battery was bad too. I looked at it and it had a horrible key scratch in the door in the shape of an "M" covered up terribly by what I belive was nail polish and the passenger side had horrible paint fade. Inside the dash had 2 massive cracks but no holes. I decided I would still drive it for the hell of it. Once I got driving I fell in love with it the power the way it rode compared to my previous truck. So I tried the 4x4 and listened and looked and ended up coming to a deal I got it for $5,000 which was my affordable price range at the time. Around my area too trucks for $5,000 with less than 165k are rare. Its terrible the price people ask for trucks here. Anyway my point it i had the same situation and I wasn't too happy either but at the same time a cheap camera isnt going to take great pictures. I've driven to other places many miles also and turned up being let down just to drive away with all the gas wasted. I always thought it was worth it because I know if I'd never gone and looked I would have always had it in the back of my mind as a good deal wonder if I should have looked.
Sorry for the novel lol

We live and learn, I am leaving now to go look at an 03 black LS. We will see how this one compares to the pics. I do realize pics always look better but just seemed they tried too hard not to show any damage and succeeded.

I've seen a few car lots that use cell phone pictures. Sometimes you can see the reflection of the person taking the picture in the side of the car. And the camera is obviously the guy's cell phone.

Good luck!

Did you go back and look at the pictures again after seeing the Impala? Could you see anything in the pics after knowing where the flaws were?

Sorry `Jerry
Some lessons in life can be expensive & more frustrating then others 4-Sure...There's many out there that do not speak/act true We live & hopefully learn from these bad experiences...

Many claim that a picture says a thousand words, but those thousand words also can all be a `lie & untrue

Wish you good luck in your future search for a honest car & seller 4-Real~> Sure...
