Fromprevious post Blown! Next CTS-v gets 600-horse supercharged V-8

What's good for the Blue Devil is good for the Cadillac CTS-v. The next-generation muscle-Caddy, which is expected in the 2009 model year along with the quicker-than-Z06 Chevrolet Corvette, also will get the supercharged LS7 7.0-liter powerplant. While the Blue Devil, which will be named Z07, will have about 700-horsepower ("Trend," June), expect the engine to be detuned somewhat for the CTS-v to about 600 horses.

That's still well above the competition's numbers. The BMW M3 and Audi RS4 come in at 420 horsepower, and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG looks to be about 503 horsepower, same as the CLK63 AMG Black Series that made its debut at the New York show.

On paper, the Z06's 505-horsepower, 7.0-liter has enough grunt to give the CTS-v the edge over its European rivals. But the naturally aspirated Z06 engine is said to lack enough low-end torque for a car of the Cadillac's weight. The Z06 weighs just over 3200 pounds; the new CTS-v is likely to tip the scales at about 3600.

Expect themes from the current Cadillac CTS-v to carry through to the new model, including stiffer springs and shocks, meaty Brembo brakes, a quicker steering ratio, fender blisters, and lower front and rear deck spoilers, a mesh grille, and nicely bolstered front seats.I hope there's going to be Fuel around to fill her up : )No Gas ~ No Go

Exclusive: GM's Project Alpha Takes Shape
Date posted: 06-04-2007

DETROIT — General Motors' plan for a new family of midsize, rear-wheel-drive cars is beginning to take shape, with the lead vehicle — an RWD successor to the Pontiac G6 — penciled in for a late 2010 intro, Inside Line has learned.

The platform, called Alpha, also will underpin several other models in North America and Europe, beginning in model-year 2011, according to GM suppliers. Alpha reportedly has been designed to use bits of the Kappa platform on which the
Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky are based.

Replacements for the front-wheel-drive
Cadillac BLS sedan and wagon, based on the rear-drive Alpha architecture, are due in early 2011. At that time, the car may be introduced in North America, where it would be slotted below the CTS in size and price, with stickers starting in the high $20,000s.

In model-year 2012, Saturn is slated to get an Alpha-based sedan, which may supplement rather than replace the front-wheel-drive
Aura. The RWD Saturn four-door body will be shared with Opel and Holden, GM insiders tell IL.

However, GM still has significant plans for several of its existing front-wheel-drive midsize sedans. The old W-body platform (also known internally as MS2000) is being phased out after 2010. A successor to the W-body
Buick LaCrosse, rebadged as the Regal, will shift to the Epsilon 2 platform in early 2009, followed by a redesigned Aura in late 2009. The new Epsilon-based Regal, according to IL sources, will be built and sold in both North America and China, with virtually identical sheet metal.

The Malibu gets a significant redesign this fall but isn't scheduled to move to the Epsilon 2 architecture until late 2010. About the time the last of the old W-body models — the
Chevrolet Impala (rebadged as the Impala Classic) — is put out to pasture, Chevrolet may create a long-wheelbase, six-passenger companion to the Epsilon-based Malibu, to serve customers and fleets who prefer front-wheel drive and may shy away from the new RWD Impala that's coming in mid-2010. Chevy reportedly would pit this large FWD four-door against the Ford Taurus (née Five Hundred).

In Europe, replacements for the
Saab 9-5 and 9-3 will shift to Epsilon 2, in mid-2009 and mid-2010, respectively. Opel and Daewoo also will have future products based on the same architecture.

What this means to you: GM still intends to offer a smorgasbord of sedans, in both front- and rear-wheel drive, in the midsize segment.

Chevy Crossover Coming, Pickup Dropped - Car News

GM’s plans unfold for Lambda full-size crossover architecture.BY ALISA PRIDDLE, May 2007

General Motors Corp. is expected to build a fourth full-size crossover for Chevy at the Spring Hill, Tennessee, plant, but plans for a pickup from the platform have been abandoned, CARandDRIVER.com is told.

The Lambda architecture launched in December 2006 with the
Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia, followed by the Buick Enclave that is currently being delivered to dealers. The three are built at a new plant in Delta Township, near Lansing, Michigan.
The afterthought Chevy (some have suggested it will be called the Traverse) will be produced next year at GM’s Spring Hill plant that has been idled and was in danger of closing permanently until the promise of the new crossover and a $255 million investment in the paint shop. Production of the new
Saturn Vue recently shifted from Spring Hill to GM's Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, facility; the Saturn Ion is being replaced by the Opel Astra, exported from Antwerp, Belgium; and GM nixed plans for new minivans that would have been built in Tennessee.
At one time there was a pickup in the plans, as well, but it lacked viability, Troy Clarke, president of GM North America, tells CARandDRIVER.com at a media event in St. Louis, Missouri, to test drive the new Enclave.

Call it the Opel Corsa OPC or Vauxhall Corsa VXR, we recently drove the first performance edition that was planned as part of the Corsa lineup right from the start. All other current OPC/VXR models and past generations were attractive aftermarket attempts, but this dynamite little Corsa feels like the complete package and we’d gladly part with $20,000 just to have one every weekend at a track like this. 192 horsepower from

WR Fleet: 2007 Chevrolet Suburban LT 4WD 1/2-Ton
Filed Under: Sport Utility Vehicles, Chevrolet, General Motors, Winding Road Fleet Blog June 26th, 2007 2:11 PM 8 Comments

Price as tested: $45,610
Miles driven during test: 560

I was fortunate enough to take our test Suburban to a weekend family gathering in Lewiston, Michigan earlier this month.
Traveling with me were four men over six feet tall, a four-year-old and an eleven-year-old. Thankfully, our ride came equipped with three rows of seats. The third row was quickly and easily accessed by two 6’3” 18-year-olds. With a flip of the handle, the second row seat folded forward allowing for total access to the back. The two boys were quite comfortable and never asked if they could move up to the second row, which easily accommodated the two young girls and another six-foot-sized passenger. The front cabin allowed for plenty of room for both driver and passenger.
All of our gear was packed into the back cargo area with ease. Five suitcases, a large cooler, an air bed, two skateboards, six blankets, six pillows, two beach bags filled with towels, floating devices, and plenty of suntan lotion. Oh yes, and a few miscellaneous bags of munchies.

GM delayed production ready Volt to go fuel cell

H2 Daily, a website devoted to daily reporting of hydrogen fuel cell advances, is reporting that General Motors “was all set and ready for production” of the Chevrolet Volt “when GM decided to take another look at” the Volt and delay production so that it could use “a newly developed 5th generation hydrogen fuel cell. The fuel cell promises absolutely no tailpipe emissions ever.” According to the website, the “Volt Fuel Cell is identical in every external way to the Volt Extended Range Vehicle(...)

Vauxhall Set To Introduce Cars That ‘Talk’ To Each Other?
Filed Under: Gadgets, Safety, Tech, General Motors, Future Vehicles, Opel/Vauxhall July 12th, 2007 9:29 AM 2 Comments

General Motors’ Vauxhall is set to introduce a new safety system that should have ‘em talking. Dubbed “Vehicle-to-Vehicle” (V2V), it’s a GPS-based system that lets two cars communicate when they’re in close proximity to each other.
According to Auto Express, the safety system utilizes data like speed, location, acceleration, and direction of travel to alert drivers of potential hazards. The system has a number of different warning feedback mechanisms, including seat visual and sound cues, as well as a motor that vibrates the seat to provide haptic feedback.
The system, which is capable of inducing braking on its own, also incorporates a blind-spot elimination system. It’s expected to see its first production application on Vauxhall’s next Calibra.
