2009 Chevrolet Chevelle Preview

In 1978 Chevrolet droped the production of the Chevelle and replace it with the Malibu. In 2009 the Chvelle will be launched again and will be based on the Chevrolet SS (Super Sport) Concept that was unveiled at the 2003 North American International Auto Show that was intended to be a modern version of past SS vehicles, such as the Camaro and Chevelle.

The 2009 Chevrolet Chevelle will be based on the same platform as the 2009 Camaro: the Zeta Lite platform that Chevrolet will share with Holden. This architecture can hardly be described as hardly cutting edge, but is a lot more sophisticated than the rigid-axle Mustang.
The power plant under the bonnet will be a 400 bhp LS2 6.0-liter V-8 engine mated with a six-speed manual transmission.
The 2009 Chevelle will be mixing a dramatic design and true performance. Will use an updated formula, with fuel-efficient power-train, advanced chassis and contemporary design.
The 2003 Chevrolet SS Concept featured 21-inch front and 22-inch rear aluminum wheels with BF Goodrich performance tires. For the prodcution version they will be replaced with conventional alloys ranging probably from 17" to 19", depending on the model.
The Chevelle will be launched sometime in 2008 as a 2009 model.

Mallett Cars Beefs Up Pontiac Solstice

BERERA, Ohio — Mallett Cars already offers more power for the Pontiac Solstice with its LS2/LS7 V8 engine conversion kits. Now it's adding more show to the go with its aggressive-looking Pitbull wide-body kit.

It adds 4 inches of width to the front and 5 inches in the rear, giving the Solstice a considerably more menacing look. More importantly, the six-piece body kit allows the use of ultrawide wheels so you can put all that V8 power to good use. The specially designed front fascia also improves airflow to the engine.

The fiberglass upgrade is expected to cost $16,000-18,000 fully installed and painted. A carbon-fiber package will also be available by special order.

Only a limited number of Pitbull Edition Solstices will be built. The official debut is scheduled for the 2007 SEMA show.

Spyshot snapper Brenda Priddy has captured some fresh new shots of Chevrolet’s pending super Corvette doing some over-the-road testing. We’re excited to see the SS/Mako Shark/Z07/Blue Devil/TBD looking sensational in red, particularly with those sinister-looking blacked-out alloys.
Click on the gallery below for more images of this car, or here for more speculation on what’s underhood.

GM Announces Major Changes In Design Ranks
Filed Under: General Motors, Hirings/Firings/Personnel Moves, Design, Automotive News May 1st, 2007 11:31 AM No Comments
General Motors has just announced that there will be a sizeable amount of movin’ and shakin’ going on in its design ranks. The organizational initiative comes as part of GM’s effort to streamline and accelerate product development globally.
Bryan Nesbitt (who designed the Chrysler PT Cruiser before defecting to GM to work on vehicles like the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Aura) will take up the reigns as GMNA VP of Design for North America, a newly created-post. Nesbitt is currently Executive Director of Design for GM

Chevrolet working on a crossover model

General Motors is working on a new crossover for the Chevrolet maker. Supposed to be called Traverse , the new model will have the same basic architecture with the new Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia and upcoming Buick Enclave. The new Chevrolet Crossover will combine SUV features with a car-like ride and fuel efficiency and will go into for production next year. "It seems like they’re realizing, ’We have a home run here, we’d better get these to our volume dealers,’ " said dealer Steve Cook,(...)

Vortech Corvette Z06 - a 635 hp Corvette
I wanta drive it : )

505 hp for a Corvette Z06 is not enough for one of us. So is Vortech, an European tuner that decided to add another 130 hp to the Corvette’s output. In the final stages of their work, Vortech put a V-2 SQ ("Super Quiet") T-trim centrifugal supercharger, which delivers 6 psi of boost to the LS7 V-8 engine. As a result the V8 engine has now an output of 635 hp. The price for Vortech kit is $6695, satin finish and $6995, polished(...)

REPORT: Chevy Traverse to join GM's group of Lambda CUVs
Posted May 29th 2007 9:29AM by Sam Abuelsamid

Like the Ford Explorer, Chevy Trailblazer sales have been in a tailspin lately, dropping 33 percent in the first four months of 2007. Unfortunately for Chevrolet dealers, there's not a full lineup of crossovers to take up the slack. When General Motors was developing its "Lambda" crossovers that include the Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, it didn't foresee the Trailblazer dropping off so quickly and left Chevy completely out of the plan.

GM is now scrambling to create Chevrolet a variant of the Lambda platform that underpins the Outlook, Acadia and Enclave. The Spring Hill, Tennessee plant that until recently was the home of Saturn will now be the production site for the Chevrolet crossover that the Detroit News is reporting will be called the Traverse. The new model will probably debut next January at the Detroit Auto Show and the Trailblazer will like roll off into the sunset by 2010.

Report: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V To Get 600 Horsepower Corvette Engine

According to the scribes over at Motor Trend, the next Cadillac CTS-V will be even more powerful than originally thought. The buff book claims that the 2009 sport sedan will receive a version of General Motors’ supercharged LS7 V-8, which should imbue the car with some 600 horsepower.
The 7.0-liter LS7 powerplant, you may recall, is the same basic engine that is expected to find its way into the “Blue Devil” Corvette, though that engine is expected to be even more powerful, with about 700 horsepower.
Despite being down on power compared to the super ‘Vette, the CTS-V is expected to make the new BMW M3 and Audi RS4 look downright pokey. And judging by the spy shots our photographers have captured of some early prototypes, the rest of the package looks to be the business, as well.

Report: Select GM Mid-Sizers Going Rear-Drive Starting In 2010

Pontiac has been dogged by underwhelming G6 sales since the model’s introduction, but a new rear-drive platform could spark new life into the “We Build Excitement” midsizer.
According to Inside Line, the model’s replacement will ride on a new architecture dubbed “Alpha,” and it’s slated to arrive in late 2010 as a 2011 model. The chassis will apparently employ pieces of GM’s smaller Kappa platform, which underpins the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky.
The Alpha platform will also be found underneath the next-generation Cadillac BLS, meaning that it, too, will switch drive axles. IL believes the car could see American dealerships, though we would still expect for Europe to get the first crack at these models beginning in 2011. Plans for additional Alpha-bodies include a Saturn/Opel/Holden triplet, as well.
Inside Line has the near-term skinny on GM’s plans for its current W-body vehicles (Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet Impala, etc.), its next-generation Epsilon-2 architecture, and other assorted salacious tidbits after the jump.
