Hello, I just acquired a 76 Monte, been idle for many years. It starts and runs but I need to remove 20 year old gasoline, preferably without dropping tank. Any ideas appreciated, thanks.

You could siphon the gas out through the filler neck with a garden hose. It would probably not taste as bad if you used an external fuel pump with the garden hose.

 

thanks , I’ll try again, seems like the fuel line hose I’m using is getting stuck going down the neck, is there a check valve between neck and tank … ? I’ll give it another go today, I tried to search net and saw someone else had no luck thru filler neck … might be best to lower tank, that way I can inspect for rust, and probably should replace sending unit as well.

 

Disconnect the fuel line that goes from the tank to the fuel pump at the engine then start your siphon there. It helps if the rear-end of the car is elevated.

 

There is a screen type thing in the neck.

Last time I had to drain a tank I unhooked the fuel filter, stuck the end in a gas can, and left the key on overnight. Came out to a huge puddle of gas and a full can but it emptied the cars tank.

 

Thanks folks, I got er done .. there is a rubber hose to metal pipe connection right by fuel pump .. Took that off, hooked up an outboard motor fuel primer and works like a charm …
