Went to look at the Blue Supercharged SS. I saw everything that I like about the Monte Carlo, but this car was pretty rough. Paint is supposed to be something called "Laser Blue" that changed tint somewhat depending on the angle you were looking at it. Straight ahead, it was a very nice bright medium blue. At an angle though, it seemed to take on a purplish tint, very nice for a factory paint job. Probably won't be getting this one, though, lots of paint defects (chips, small areas around the fender wells that the paint had come off and had started to rust), and a bad MAF sensor. Seller didn't do himself any favours, he left the winter tires on, and didn't bother to touch up any of the paint defects even though he he says he had factory touch up paint, and he didn't bother to change the MAF sensor, even though, to quote him "its only about $200 and about a half hour's work to change".
I will be looking at the red 2006 next week.

Ended up buying a 2006 SS. Don't know what the GM correct name for the color is, but it is a medium, non-metallic red. Interior is Grey and black, with some what I would call simulated pierced aluminum facings on the dash. Going to need to spend at least 2-3 weekends cleaning up the interior.

I will post some pictures, but it needs a little bit of body work before that happens. It has (what I am assuming) common factory paint defects around the rear wheel wells (chipped paint right at the wheel lip (I have seen this on all of the Monte Carlos that I looked at).

Hi,
Just getting comfortable with the SS. Previous owner lost the remote control/electronic key fob. I would like to know what I should get to replace it. From what I have seen, there are 2 types, the 5 button type that works with the remote start, and the 4 button type that doesn't have the remote start. How do I determine which I need? Will a 5 button work on a car that doesn't have a remote start feature? Does the label under the trunk lid have a code that identifies whether there is a factory remote start in the car?

I would truthfully take it to a dealer. If your car didn't have that feature, they can easily turn it on and sell you the FOBs for it.
Since you have to buy them anyway, might as well get what you want
