Default Need some help with infomation about 1986 Monte Carlo SS

Hi all
Hi all, I am in need of some help. I am retired military and was stationed in GA in 2009. I rebuilt a 1986 Monte Carlo SS for my daughter to drive. She wanted one because she remembered the 1987 we had when she was younger. After I painted and restored it mechanically, it was stolen. It has been recovered in GA, my friends saw it and I reported it to police and it was recovered. My friends knew it was my car because of the color and the emblems on the car. I need some information to take to court with me to get car back. Another person bought the car thinking it was a 1983 so GA messed up court system say his is a victim also and I have to go toc ourt to get car back. The dash VIN was altered to match a 1983 MC SS. I know several differences but have to prove other guy should have suspected it was stolen, like third brake light, aeromirrors, 200-4R trans, 373 gears, limited-slip rear end, etc. Since I live in Ohio and Car is impounded in Georgia I cannot look at car. Are the year stamped on the tail lights? All VIN numbers were removed but dash plate that was altered. They did miss removing the VIN tag attached to the underside of the rear seat that is how they proved it was my car. Any additional information that might help provethe guy knew it was not a 1983 would help. I would like to thank everyone in advance for your help!

Brent

PS here is a picture of it 2 weeks before it was stolen and here is one as it sits today.

If you purchased parts for the vehicle, compile a list with the receipts to further prove it's your car. I see the nose was replaced, in NY, the body shops have to record all replaced pats ans are traceable back to the body shop by the state. All this to prevent parts theft and chop shops. Hath, good luck.

WOW! That all sucks!! I wish you the best on proving the car. If it has the factory original engine, I heard the VIN is stamped on the block somewhere. Maybe that can help???
Best of luck, keep us updated.
