hey everyone. Im Brian. I just got an 06 monte carlo ls. I love the care but the 3.5 is such a new engine i cant really find any performance parts for it. So if you have any tips for me, just let me know. thanks

there's a few people on the site with the 3.5l monte's that may have some suggestions for you

 

welcome and congrats. and whizz has the ebst advice. just start asking some questions on what you want to do. as for things i have ehard about so far it is the typical small gain stuff.
havent heard to much for a hig gain type mod. im sure it will come out G.M. seems to finally have woke up in the after market parts area and seem to be bring some stuff out for the after market with the motors and newer cars.

but as for small gains stuff
cold air in take or even just a good drop in after market air cleaner will help it breath better. and a better muffler system to aid in getting the air back out.
there has been talk about a after market hood comming out but havent heard if it is out yet or not.

Hey Brian, welcome to MCF!! There isn't much for the 3.5 yet, but the goal would be to open up the air flow. To start with, you can probably get a K&N air filter and that will open the front a bit. The exhaust is pretty good as it is, but you can always switch to aftermarket to open that up a bit.

If you are more adventurous, you can remove the throttlebody and polish it to help air into the engine. You can also port and polish the exhaust.

I wouldn't recommend porting the throttlebody at this point as if something screws up it goes into your engine, porting the exhaust would go through the cat and eventually out the pipe.

 

i might be wrong but do the new 3.5L have a u -bend in them? i cant remember if they do or not.

but if they do that would be the first thing to do.

 

not sure i think GM finally got smart on the U bend. but might be wrong also.

but that was thier solution to the O2 sensor. instead of beign normal and mounting it sideways the wanted it to be on top and standing straight up.
so they created the U bend to get this done. but it is a major choke point on the 6th gen cars not sure on the new ones if it is there and doing the same thing or not.

but if so im sure you can get or make a down pipe for it that will take care of that for ya.
I have the 03 it has one on it also. and the down pipe is dubbel walled and looks like it is 2.5 dia. when it is really smaller then this but for get the size but want to say it was like 1.75-2.0dia. inside. that is a drastic change when you change it out and makes the cars open up alot more also.

 

i think they were saying its not as big on the 06-07 models...at least thats what i've heard
