You got me wondering now. Is the Grand Cherokee set up to favor torque over horsepower?
The Cherokee would kick a$$ in a pulling contest.

The 3.8. Had the same motor in my firebird and out ran a dakota with the 5.2 and the Cherokee is heavier

I have raced a dokota with the 5.2 and beat him by 2-3 cars
so you should be able to get him

The Jeep transmission should be lower for torque so it will beat you off the line, but you should be catching up around the 1/8th or so. His 70-100 MPH will be much slower than yours and you should pull away.
