I purchased my 77 Monte 20 years ago. My first car when I was 17, was a 76 Monte. Love at 1st sight! The problem was it couldn't get out of its own way. 350 with 160 HP. I had a fantasy then. To have a 2nd gen. with power to spare. Well in the last 20 years that fantasy came through.
My 77 came with factory swivel buckets, white Landau top, white interior that I tweaked, cruise control, electric window grid rear defrost, ice cold R-12 AC which I still have, Factory Sky Roof. What I added was power windows, Wilwood 2 piston brake calipers, 3.73 Eaton posi rear, aluminum radiator, replaced idiot lights with auto-gauges including tach, Hedman hedders, dual exhaust dyno-max super turbos,
700-R4 trans with OD built to 500 HP, 383 stroker 458 HP at 5,300 RPM, 478 ft. lbs the at 4,200 RPM.
Came with hydraulic roller cam 225 intake 231 exhaust, aluminum heads, Quick-Fuel 750 cfm carb.
16" American Racing Torque Thrust chrome wheels with 255s in the rear. 0-60 5.3 seconds. 1/4 mile in 13.77. Not bad for a 4,000 lb family car.
The perfect sleeper!
I love it & all Monte generations!!!
Thanks guys! The original color is Medium Red code 72.
The swivel buckets were avaliable on the 73-77 Laguna, El Camino, Cutlass & 73 Chevelle. Only about 10% came with these seats. However the idea was taken or stolen from Chrysler.
The early 60s Chrysler 300F & Plymouth Fury had them also.
