About that port. Look below the dash on the drivers side. On the left side there should be an OBDII port. Is the port missing from its location? If so, that port may be your OBDII port that someone pulled from underneath the dash.

About the fender well intake. I had the K&N drop in filter before I made my FWI. There is a difference in throttle response. There is also a slight seat of the pants gain in acceleration. As for HP, maybe not alot of gain, but it definately helps the car breathe better.

I've seen data logging setups that had similar plugs, but why the hell would someone datalog a stock monte carlo? lol I'll try to follow the cable back and see where it goes.

A few cheap mods are to paint the wood trim, and remove the exterior door molding.

Here is a snap of my intake some view it as hot but i dont see any decrease in performance.
I've got piping and a filter sittin' around I could use, but unless it's a worth while mod then I don't see a reason to go through the trouble... I've seen the pics of these setups and it looks like you've gott relocate a reservoir and your battery just to fit the intake filter. Am I right?

I've used a buffer before, it's a great tool, but if the person using it is also a "great big tool" they can ruin your paint pretty quick, hehe.

I'm gonna be transferring over a huge stereo system pretty soon. I run 3200 watts to 8 speakers in my Avenger. I'm gonna swap over the 6x9's 15" sub and box, and both amps (looks like I'll have to get some 5-1/4"s).

What our stock alternators were capable of for output, and does anyone have a recommendation on what size to upgrade to? They make a lot more options for high current amps for GM products than they do for my Venge, lol.

I'd also like to know if there are any known issues with these cars, so I can check for them and fix them before they break.

Thanks guys... You're all being very helpful. I look forward to helping some of your guys out with advice in the future.

The OBDII port is in place. The port I'm talking about is a computer plug called a parallel plug. It's a 25-pin connector with two screws that hold it into the device it's plugged into. I'll track down the origin... sneaky cables.

No i didnt have to move my reservoir or my battery. They only thing i had to customize while installing i had to grind a tab off the battery holder, so the tab wouldnt dig into the filter. But hey it was a 30 dollar intake. Another site you might want to check out its

www.optionracing.com - intakes, headlights
www.usbody.com - Fiberglass hoods
www.carid.com
www.andysautosport.com - i use this as a reference

Another tip is if you cant find anything under a monte carlo check lumina, but thats a 5th gen thing.

Unfortunately with a HAI you aren't going to "feel" the loss of power you are getting, because the throttle response and throaty sounds mess with your head.

However your car has sensors that read all of the air being thrown into the engine, when it reads the air as being hot, and that will make you lose HP.

I believe it's for every 35° over stock intake temperatures, you will lose 3% of HP. Some people have CAI readings of about 90°, when you have that HAI you can have a reading of almost 200°, which would be like a 9% loss of power.

All are approximations, but you won't really "feel" the loss of power, but it IS there.

I'll hold off for now on the intake. I'll run it for a few months and hope nothing goes wrong with it, then start thinking about making my own problems.

As for now I found out that the parallel port was for an old analog car phone. Had it pulled out today. And I'll be posting a stupid issue i had today, in the tech area.
