Default Just got it. I hope it works out!

Hello:
This is Rick. I live near Boston. My wife just surprised me with a used 2004 Monte that seems so nice. I'm still getting used to it. The Sound System is amazing. AM/FM/Tape & CD with all these different search functions. Nice.

It's coming up on 70,000 Miles. The PO was a lady who commuted highway to work and babied it. It's got new brakes and rotors, been oiled regularly with Mobil-1, the inside and outside are mint.

The outside corners of the Front Bumper have some small, oval and louvered "Spacers" instead of lights. Do lights go in there or is that related to engine intake or brake cooling?
If they are places for lamps ... what fits.

I plan to do all my own wrenching on this car. I'd appreciate hearing or having a list of things I should check, do or un-do to make the nice ride it is even nicer.

I'm hoping there's a Lamp to stick in the oval shaped spaces on the outside of the lower bumper.
Who's got all the information and tips I need to make this car last me for a few years?

Thanks for having the site and forum.
I'll try and contribute as I get adjusted to being a new Chevy Monte guy and learning what's-what!

Hello Rick, and welcome to the Monte Carlo Forum. Glad to hear of your surprise '04 MC. Is it an SS or LS, and what color is it?
Good thing about the Mobil 1, I'm a big fan of the stuff. Make sure you get the Extended Performance type. It's all on sale at Advanced Auto parts right now for under $30 for 5 qt's and a filter. The only other place I've found it cheap is at Walmart, 5qt jug for $26.
Check out my cardomain sight for pics of both my '01 and '04. Maybe that will help show you what is there. I'm assuming that it is in the lower facia, where the fog lights are. If it had them new, there is a switch on the left side of the dash by the light switch.

Hi Rick, & Welcome to the MCF.

The front lower oval/plastic is for fog lights. You can
get OEM Factory, or aftermaket ones.
I think it's great that your wife has excellent taste in automobiles.
The Chevrolet Monte Carlo is a awesome vehicle.
If you love her, she will love you back, but
`if you abuse her, she will abuse you back : (
Your post reflects, that the previous owner loved her Monte : )
Is your's the bulletproof 3.8L Engine ?
Look forward to your future posts, and pictures are always
a plus. Enjoy your Monte Carlo, and I wish you
safe/fun miles.

Welcome to the site - according to Rick's description it sounds like an LS.

Yeah, the LS had the grille things instead of lights. The mod isn't easy, unless you happen to get GM OEM parts, which still require a bracket if I remember right. Best to find one at a junk yard and see what's all involved.

But yes, the grilles can be replaced with lights without having to worry about cooling. There's a big scoop under the front facia (the thing that's always scrapin those parking stall borders) for the cooling, and as long as that's intact ur good to go. I would just measure and go get some aftermarket ones. They'll look good, and a little ingenuity will have em on quick.

But yes, congratulations on the new car! Hope you enjoy it!

Get us some pics, especially before/after the fog lights so we can see the work u did! We're all suckers for some good baby-pictures
