Question Homelink Error

I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS. It has the Homelink on it. I've had no problem with it until last week. When I press thru the gas mileage and fuel info buttons, when I get to the Instant Mileage display, instead of showing my current MPG, it shows -----E------. In the manual it says I have to contact a dealer to get it reset or reprogrammed. I'm not interested in spending alot of money just to get it reset. Does anyone know what I have to do to correct this problem.

Thanks for any help,
New user, Maninblk

Welcome to the Forum! My Instant Mileage and Average Speed displays have never worked so I just don't pay attention to them (you can figure mpg the old-fashioned way, driving till the tank is half-full, recording the mileage at that point, filling the tank, recording how much gas you put in, and seeing how many miles you drive before it gets to half-full again, then dividing the # of miles by the # of gallons of gas used).
As for Average Speed, my Driver Information Center told me six months ago I was averaging 19 MPH. Now it says 84 MPH. Go figure!

Welcome... Mine stopped working when I had to replace the fuel sending unit... After replacing it, now all is good again...

Average MPH on 2001 Monte Carlo SS - Incorrect!
My 01 Monte Carlo SS tells me my average mph is 21.7. Now that's a laugh! I'll check the fuel sending unit, thanks. Old fashioned way works just fine though. And the temperature works.
Hubby just put in a remanufactured tranny- runs like new!
