Hey my name is Casey. I'm the proud owner of a 1998 Chevy Monte Carlo LS 3.1L engine (stock). My car currently is a bight red however a new paint job is coming soon. Ive done several upgrades to my car. When I bought the car I got it used from an old chevy mechanic who had done several upgrades himself. It had a brand new transmission in it rated for the 3.1 I drove it for quite awhile until miles on the stock engine got to about 290K. I got ugly and found another guy who had a '98 MonteCarlo 3800 eninge with only 80K miles on it. (it broke my check book) but i bought it from him. Turns out his friend totaled the car years ago and they never did anything with it. So I brought it home and rebuilt it completely. All the parts were still good but it sat in a shed for almost 20 years so it need a good clean and grease. I had some worry during the process about fitting it with the new 3.1l transmission. In the 90s GM made their transmissions for 3.1s to be able to fit 3.8 as well...this was not a GM transmission it was bought from a second hand guy who builds trans on his own... But sure enough it fit. My boss and I got it up on the lift so we could mark out where to line everything up and then we lowered it down and got in in position and it connected. After that I havent done much to it besides the subs I replaced in the trunk. Inside the truck on the top was 2 8 inch speakers... also stalk, I got those out (im saving them no I wont sell) and I replaced them with 2 8" subs, after that its been routine maintenance and tire replacements. I have the stock wheels still but I'm not sure how long I'm going to keep them on there. Id like to go through this summer and get the dent on the right rear panel out, have it sand blasted and then painted a slightly darker red... but we'll see if I have time. It's currently sitting in my shop (i have to drive a grandma car to school and work I dont like it LOL) The fuel pump and filter need replaced havent had time yet. Anyways came across this and since my monte is my fave of my cars ive owned (maybe next to my ford High Boy) I figured I'd join this page. Feel free to ask any questions.
