Default Hello, and HELP!

Hi!

My name is Matt, Im from the great city if Milwaukee. I joined the forum because i am in need of some help. These freakin coolant elbows... Im wonderin how to replace them. First let me give you a back story, to how it broke(since it boggles my mind). I was on my way to work, when I had to slam on the breaks to avoid hitting another car, because a stupid Brewers game let out(they lost, natch) when i get to work, my car is over heating, and im pissing coolant. Apparently, a coolant elbow exploded, and im not ****ting you, exploded! Curious, how could slamming on the breaks do that, and 2, How to fix it? I was reading other posts, and I hear Dex Cool is to blame, that and GM for putting a .40 cent part next to exhaust manifolds. A walkthrough would kick ***! If theres a link to a walkthrough, that would kick more ***! 2004 Monte SS, 3.8. I thank anyone who can help, Ill name my first born after you!

Ugh... I uhh

You can buy them at pep-boys in the self-help section. I'm sorry I don't have the time to do a write-up for you. Basically you'll be disconnecting your battery, taking your accessory belt off, and alternator and then seeing what you need to take off to get to the elbows.

Pop the new elbows in, fill up your coolant (just throw in prestone yellow so you don't have to worry about buying dex-cool it mixes fine) and bleed your system through the thermostat.

Hope our help got you there. MAKE SURE you bleed the system thru the bleeder on top of the thermostat housing. And Dex-cool wasn't to blame. Defective hose. Cheapest bidder.
