hello and I am having problems
Hey guys Im new to the board. I have a 02 SS That I am having problems with. My problem is that when I gets on it about 3/4 wot, it stops accelerating. If I am coasting I can accelerate normally, but I cant when I get into it. Can someone here help me? I just started noticing it the other day when I got off the highway. The car has 78000 miles and I have routine maintenance done on it.
Thanks in advance
Tony

Welcome to the forum Tony!!
If your RPM's drop I would suggest that it may be your TPS=Throttle Position Sensor, if RPM's jump up or remain steady I would look at your TCS=Traction Control Solenoid..

Thanks for the reply montejass
My cars RPM's jump up when I get on it. It jumps up to like 4500-5000 RPM's and it wont pick up any speed. I couldnt get it to go past 70 mph. Do you think the TCS would cause this?
Thanks

Hummmmm... Now that I think about it, it could not be your TCS or your TPS. At normal acceleration does it go through all the gears? It sounds like it's trans related for sure...

RE: hello and I am having problems
yeah, it seems to go through all gears at normal acceration....I can reach hwy speed with no unusual noises. But when I punched it and held I noticed the rpms sat a 3000 then all of a sudden shot up to 5000 stayed there for a few sec's went back down to 3000 and couldn't get the needle past 70 mph while holding the pedal down. I think I could be looking at some big bucks !!!! Thanks for your input Montejass. Am I out $1500+ ????? Tony

RE: hello and I am having problems
Naaaa.... I don't think it's going to be anything too serious. Run by TwilightZone have have them pull trouble codes for you. It sounds like maybe something related to overdrive.
I just replaced the trans on my wifes 98 GMC pickup, $1400...ugh... But, it's still better than another car payment..

RE: hello and I am having problems
the chevy dealer looking at it determined it was a plugged cad. converter. would that make sense ???? I'll know when I pick it up and drive it , for sure !!!! bad news..my cars outta warranty good news..federal/state law says cad. conv. covered under warranty for up to 8 years. $##$% I was lucky...but like I said, we'll see when I drive it. Thanks much for your help montejass. I let ya know how it turns out
