Default Excited to be a member here!

Hello all, and thank you for providing such a resource for the Monte Carlo! I have learned so much already about all the little things that have been ticking me off about my car for the last six months or so. I really enjoyed the sticky about the heated seat wiring, and plan on fixing that shortly.

As with any forum, I believe that the more people who contribute their knowledge, the stronger the forum becomes, and I feel I may have something to add.

Would anybody be interested in a full write up on the Locking mechanisms and keys for Sixth gen MC's (and most other GM vehicles of this time period) complete with pictures, and cures to common problems?

I am an apprentice locksmith, and deal with at least one person a week who has ignition problems, door/trunk lock problems, and Passlock problems with their GM vehicles. Thus I feel certain that I can save the members of this forum a lot of headaches and wallet related injuries, that can be solved with little trouble and minor expense.

Some of the things I would like to cover:
1. My Ignition won't turn with my key! And I'm stuck in the Burger King parking lot! Common Problems, and solutions.
2. My Ignition turns rough, or sticks slightly when I try to turn it. (You are close to ignition failure)
3. My car won't start, and my mechanic says that I need a new Ignition. (75% of the time it can be fixed)
4. Key Degradation and what that means for the health of my locks.
5. My trunk/Doors won't open with my key
6. Preventative Maintenance

If anybody is interested in learning this stuff, I would be happy to educate.

Welcome to the forum.

As for the information you're offering, I don't think ANYONE would turn it down. If you have some educated solutions, we have many people happy to hear them. I know JC Colons has been dealing with passlock problems..... You might be able to add info to his troubleshooting!

Locksmith, Welcome to MCF! GLAD to see another 02 still Cruising!

As Jason said, I am having an ongoing problem with my Passlock system. I know how to bypass the system if the resistor is in the key, but in the 02s, Jason has found, the electronics are in the ignition switch itself.
So Yes, I would like to know all there is to know about the key, lock cylinder and Passlock system!

Okay. Thanks guys and gals for the warm welcome. I took most of the pics today for the write-up. I will be working on it in my spare time. I'm doing the whole work from dawn till dark thing lately. Doesn't leave much time for forum stuff.

JC- not to worry. I think I can help. The upcoming post will explain everything I know. What is your car doing in specific?

STUMPMI- Thanks for the welcome. My car is just stock, and I don't have big plans for it. My requirements are 1. Look attractive 2. Get me back and forth 30 miles a day in relative comfort, leather seats, and a moonroof 3. Not break and cost me money. Beyond that, I am not terribly picky. I live in Grand Haven, and commute to Holland every day.
