I have an 01 monte carlo ss and have been hearing a scraping, scratching, rustling noise in the engine when i first turn it on. When i start to accelerate the noise fades to a softer sound similiar to a bearing loose and to the initial lound sound. The car also sometimes stalls when i first turn the engine on during idleing. If some one has any ideas please let me know. Thanks

 

I know the 3.4 litre engine makes a ticking/knocking sound upon initial start up. GM says it's piston slap and is normal on the 3.4. But I haven't really noticed it on the 3.8 litre like the one you have in your SS.

Anyone else had this problem?
