I clean thoroughly with something such as dawn to remove old wax. Then I claybar using lots of quik detail. Then polish and wax, you'll be happy

Believe it or not, a lot of detailers use Dawn (the blue kind without added hand softening) to wash vehicles prior to detailing. The polishing compound will replenish the oil and nutients the paint requires.

Yeah I try to get the most generic Dawn. Without moisturizer and such.. seems harsh to use dish soap but it works great. Basically any degreaser/cleaner will work to remove old wax. Claybar should remove any wax you don't get off with soap but I like to scrub it really good first. Seems like claybar goes easier that way
