THE BIG STORY

Jimmie Johnson dominated Sunday's LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway but it was his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet teammate, Mark Martin, who won. Johnson's No. 48 ran out of gas coming to the white flag and Greg Biffle's Ford motored past. But Biffle's engine coughed on the back straightaway and Martin went by for his third win of the season. Jeff Gordon was second, followed by Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards and Biffle. Johnson wound up 22d. Tony Stewart (seventh) leads Gordon by 47 points.
Also: Johnny Benson was listed in serious but stable condition after an accident Saturday night in a supermodified race at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich. Benson, whose Toyota truck team had discontinued operations earlier in the week due to lack of sponsorship, had contact with another car and hit the wall. His injuries reportedly include burns and broken ribs… Richard Petty Motorsports will partner with Braun Racing for five Nationwide Series races. Elliott Sadler will drive one and Kasey Kahne four… Patrick Carpentier will drive Michael Waltrip's No. 55 Toyota at Sonoma… Ryan Hunter-Reay will drive for A.J. Foyt the rest of the IRL season… Joey Saldana won the World of Outlaws feature Friday and Saturday night at Dodge City Raceway Park in Kansas… Jonathan Summerton and Simona De Silvestro won the weekend's Formula Atlantic events at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Brian Vickers took the pole Friday at Michigan with a 189.110 mph lap in his Toyota. He finished ninth. Jimmie Johnson passed Kyle Busch for the lead on lap nine Sunday and essentially stayed there through the three-quarters mark of the race. The first yellow didn't come out until lap 73, due to debris. There was another debris caution on lap 121. David Stremme hit the water barrels at the end of pit road for a yellow on lap 150. Greg Biffle's crew got him ahead on the pit stop exchange. Johnson closed and was able to pass Biffle with six laps to go. All the lead drivers were trying to save fuel. Johnson ran out coming to the white flag. Then Biffle ran out on the back straight. Mark Martin, who started 32d, went ahead and ran dry coming to the checkered flag. But he finished 2.9 seconds ahead of Jeff Gordon, who started at the back after an engine change. Johnson stopped at his pit for gas and came back to get 22d place. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was 14th. Martin averaged 155.491 mph with three yellows for 14 of the 200 laps.

NASCAR Nationwide Series

Joey Logano passed Kyle Busch with an inside move down the back straight with 10 laps to go and won Saturday night's Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway. It was his second consecutive win in the event. Busch's Toyota led 162 of the 200 laps but finished 1.6 seconds behind. Brad Keselowski was third in a Chevrolet. Logano was one of several drivers to receive pit-lane speeding penalties. He averaged 127.796 mph with eight yellows (and a red) for 31 laps. Busch leads Carl Edwards (20th; two pit penalties) by 137 points.

NASCAR Camping World Truck SeriesWith

24 laps to go, Colin Braun and Kyle Busch came upon Norm Benning's lapped truck in Saturday's Michigan 200. Braun's Ford got the advantage and went on to a 1.7-second victory over Busch's Toyota. It was the 50th series win for Roush Fenway Racing. Brian Ickler was third in a Toyota. Braun averaged 130.838 mph with five yellows for 20 of the 100 laps. Matt Crafton (fourth) leads Ron Hornaday Jr. (seventh) by 39 points.

NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series

Larry Dixon, Tony Pedregon, Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Craig Treble were the pro class winners in Sunday's United Association SuperNationals in Englishtown, N.J. In Top Fuel, Dixon won automatically because Antron Brown turned on the red light. Dixon's pass was 4.553 seconds for his fifth win at Englishtown. Brown is 34 points ahead of Tony Schumacher. In Funny Car, Pedregon's Chevrolet Impala went 4.246, 260.56 mph for a holeshot victory over Ashley Force Hood's Ford Mustang, 4.219, 272.72 mph as both cars had traction problems. Pedregon is 20 points up on Hood. Jack Beckman qualified the Valvoline/MTS Dodge Charger 16th and lost in the first round. In Pro Stock, Coughlin's Chevrolet Cobalt won on a holeshot against Mike Edwards. It was 6.598, 209.49 mph vs. 6.587, 209.82 mph. Coughlin is 109 points clear of Edwards. Ron Krisher qualified No. 1 in the Valvoline Chevrolet Cobalt and lost in the second round. In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Treble's Suzuki got a holeshot triumph, 6.955, 193.10 mph to Eddie Krawiec's 6.906, 193.29 mph on a Harley. Krawiec leads Matt Smith by 76 points.

Le MansDavid Brabham,

Marc Gene and Alexander Wurz in a diesel Peugeot combined to win Sunday's 77th 24 Hours of Le Mans. That ended Audi's five-year victory streak in the world's most prestigious endurance sports car event. They completed 382 laps and beat the Peugeot of Sebastien Bourdais, Franck Montagny and Stephane Sarrazin by one lap. Last year's winners, Allan McNish, Rinaldo Capello and Tom Kristensen finished third, six laps down, in an Audi. In LMP2, the Porsche RS Spyder of Casper Elgaard, Emmanuel Collard and Kristian Poulsen won. In GT1, the Chevrolet Corvette of Jan Magnussen, Johnny O'Connell, and Antonio Garcia won. In GT2, the Ferrari F430 of Mika Salo, Jaime Melo and Pierre Kaffer won.

This WeekendNASCAR road races at Sonoma. *I love Road Rac'in : ) The Trucks run Milwaukee Friday night and Nationwide cars Saturday night. Formula One goes to England. IRL tries Iowa. Grand-Am's in Mid-Ohio.
