Michigan and Daytona are your proverbial "Apples to Oranges" argument... you don't need friends to win Michigan. You need friends to win Daytona and Talladega, unless you're just really lucky, which could work too.

They repaved that section where all that jet fuel ran dwon in turn 3 after that incident in the Daytona 500 just to be sure the pavement wasn't severely weakened after that incident. That's going to help add bumps to the track!!!!!!

The way I see most of these teams when I hear them talk ,adn when I speak with my older friend down tehre at Childress, they usually have cars ready a couple of weeks in advance. Being Daytona, they've probably had that car built, primed, painted, and ready to go for several weeks, especially with the purse that Daytona race has in it, adn especially since they're in a comfortable position to race for bonus points in the chase and race for prestigious wins. I think you will start seeing Kenseth fall apart in about a month or so, or about the time the chase starts.

So your NASCAR Daytona history for the day..... the 1970 Daytona 500. It was the first year with the Superbirds and the Daytonas. Petty was the first car out with a blown engine, leaving Hamilton as the hope of the Petty cars. Richard Petty put on his street clothes and took over as the crew chief for Hamilton during the race.

As the race went out, the Chargers and Daytonas had their time at the front, but it was really David Pearsons #17 Torino that was showing the way at the end. Dick Brooks in the #32 Dodge Charger Daytona blew up with just 20 laps to go and spun out bring a yellow. Pearson and the new 2nd place man, Pete Hamilton hit pit road and took two tires. However, with these being the only cars on the lead lap, Petty called Hamilton back in and put the other two tires on the car as well, hoping that with the caution bringing Hamilton to Pearsons bumper (Pearson had held a half lap lead), the 4 tires would help him get by Pearson, since he didn't think 2 tires would do the job. Pettys call worked, and with 8 laps to go, Hamilton overtook Pearson. Pearson fought hard, but just didn't have the grip to take the lead back. The Superbird won its first major superspeedway race, leaving the Torino with a 2nd place finish...

Gonna be an interesting race for us here on the MCF fantasy. Duane i always take a read through your run downs and you do a good job on them I started this fantasy season with no tactics to picking and have now come up with my own method which appears to be working good.

Uh-oh... Hunter isn't picking Kyle Busch??????? WOW!!!!!!!

Here are some historic NASCAR "pictures of the day." This is some racing action from the 1971 Daytona 500.

Editing Note: I'm a bad historian for never posting my sources on these pictures. I do have the sources posted on my FAcebook page, where I have most of these pictures as well, but I do not usualy bring the source along with me when I post it here. If you ever want to know where a picture came from, please let me know and I'll get them for you.

These all came from Ingo Griske, a member of the Randy Ayers Modeling Forum, who took them from a negative.

First picture is AJ Foyt (#21) in a '69 Mercury, out running Buddy Baker, in the #11 Dodge Charger

Next, Bobby Isaac (#71) in a '71 Dodge Charger ahead of Donnie Allison (#27) in a '69 Mercury Cyclone racing in the tri-oval

Here is David Pearson (#17) in a '69 Mercury Cyclone and Buddy Baker (#11) in a '71 Dodge Charger racing through one of the turns.. hard for me to say which, but I think it would be Turn 4.

This last shot also appears in the rundown. This is Bobby Isaac, Buddy Baker, David Pearson, and Lee Roy Yarbrough racing through the tri-oval.

Interesting Fact #1Oddly enough, in none of these pictures is the man who won this race... Richard Petty won it. More on that later.....

Interesting Fact #2Ron Keselowski, Uncle to Brad Keselowski, completed 1 lap before quitting the 1971 Daytona 500. One of the original "start and park" operations.

CRAP!!! I've been off the site for a while since I haven't been messing with the Monte and I totally forgot about fantasy nascar. I really sucked last year and I know you guys need someone to beat! :-) (been coming back the last few days cuz I missed the updates and need to get motivated again)

As a reminder, I'm a big #29 fan and I'll be rooting for him all weekend, BUT he's in alot of pix (rightly so), so for the sake of strategy, MWR has been pretty strong this year and they've not been picked (much). So:

Boyer
Truex
Hamlin

(i'm avoiding the hendrix/rcr gimme's, so it's win it all or lose it all!)

What kind of pictures would you like to see tomorrow? Victory lane? Crashes? Garage/pit area pictures?

And if anyone is interested, here are the points as we exited Daytona last year. It isn't as good of a comparison because last year, Daytona was race #17 intsead of race #18.... but what a difference a year makes for some... I think Brent and I are the only ones even close to where we were last year at this time. It really matches up better with the points coming out of Kentucky this year. So if you take that into consideration, anyone this year who is 8th palce or higher would be the points leader last year.... we are a much more competitive group this year than we were last year!!!
