The V8 F-Bodies almost take 5 gallons.

I don't see how 2 gallons can effectively cool a racecar!

They're moving fast enough to pull enough air over that radiator....

Couldn't they just off-set their bumper drafting and still have all the effects of the bump draft and still have sufficient air-flow?

That is basically what they have been doing. However, when your bumpers are offset, you're not as fast as wehn you're in a straight line.



When I was at RCR this week, I was told they have actually handed down a new rule concerning the rear bumpers. They have to add two inches of metal to the bottom of the rear bumpers. The problem with this is, Menard's Daytona 500 car was already sculpted, painted (well, wrapped), and ready to race. Now they have to redo the rear end of the car. This is supposed to create more drag and slow them down further.


One idea NASCAR is throwing around too is to make them move the air opening to drivers side (left side) of the car. The cars can really only offset with the rear car hanging to the front cars passenger (right) side. Going to the left knocks the guy way out of control in corners. So if the air induction was moved to the left bumper of a car, it would make it all the harder to do.


I say run the exhaust out of a set of cutouts in the rear bumper that would be close in line with the air induction on the cars. That would overheat the car in back within half a lap.
