Yea just read the story. Glad it wasn't anything to do with HMS. Seems Jr is following in his cheating daddies footsteps with JrMS.

If you are talking about Big E. cheating is still cheating even if you get away with it.

 

I keep seeing references to Earnhardt senior as being the "cheating daddy". I have beenan Earnhardt senior fan from the beginning back in 1979 and don't recall "cheating" ever being an issue between Big E and Nascar officials. Agressive driving that angered many drivers and fans of other drivers.....Very Guilty!!! I just don't recall alot of "cheating".There are not many,if any things that a driver can do to cheat.You are citing equipment violations as cheating,which they are if it is blatant.If its a "gray area" interpretation made by the crew chief,my hat is off to him for trying to be innovative.To the best of my knowledge,Nascar rulebook violations concerning equipmentare usually directed at the teams crew chief,not the driver.The crew chiefis the person ultimately responsible for whats on the car when it passes through tech inspection.The driver just drives the car,he does not build it. Earnhardt seniors aggressive driving even made me cringe sometimes,like when he turned Terry Labonte around at Bristol on the last lap.That should not have happened,but you know what....Even Nascar did not see that as cheating...No fines leviedor points taken away for that incident.I could be wrong butI don't think Earnhardt senior was ever cited by Nascar for rough driving during his career. Earnhardt did more for Nascar than any driver from any era......PERIOD!!!

 

Thank you Bowtietech. No denying who I'm a fan of . Every team in history has pushed the envelop at one time or another or they won't be around very long. They have to live on the edge to get the edge otherwise they'd be racing Model T's.

 

i'd have to call your opinions of Earnhardt Sr. as slightly biased, sorry, i'm sorry as i can be. Earnhardt did a lot. he did the most in his era. but Petty brought alot of people to NASCAR and made it what it was when Earnhardt hit the scene. Sorry, but I think if it wasn't for Petty, Pearson, and the list goes on, NASCAR would never be what it is now, and it wouldn't have been what Earnhardt did.

Each driver did a lot... adn which one did the most is debatable. Petty is probably the driver who put it on TV. Earnhardt is the man who made people watch it. Gordon is the man who made it go national and become blazon with sponsors (realy, look into it... most of this commercialization and trying to appeal to everybody in America starts with Gordon). The next big thing... who knows. Each of htese 3 drivers essentially built on what the previous had done.. .as for Petty, he built on what the moonshiners started in the mountiains of NC and TN.

Now, had Earnhardt, Gordon, or Petty been part of a different era (basically born at different times), what would happen? We don't know... all we know is what has happened. Each driver has done a lot, each driver deserves respect in my opinion.


IT's just too bad Dale Sr. never won Most Popular Driver award while he was alive.. he had to get it posthumously. I remember Bill Elliott kept winning it... and he wasn't doing anything!!!!!

But the rant is done now.... regardless, time to look on to California.
