5th Gen ('95-'99): It wont start
#4
Vehicle Anti Theft System - Basically the key. There is a resistor embedded into the key with provides a signal to that allow the car to start. If they go bad, the car wont start.
Do you have another key? If so, try another key. If it starts the first key is bad.
A very simple "starting" point for a no-start condition.

Sometimes the contacts inside the ignition switch get worn out, other times the small wires going to the switch lose contact, the contacts on the key wear out... Definitely try another key if you have one. There is a VATS bypass to avoid replacing the ignition switch. This page has a lot of useful info on that procedure http://thealdensorg.dyndns.org/vehic...BypassVATS.pdf
