Default 1981 key gets hung in run position but won't start

It almost acts like it's the wrong key which it isn't when you turn it to start it it doesn't go all the forward to turn it over key is sticky when removing from the steering column as well.

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear your having trouble..
Were here to help.

Do the dashlights come on with the key in the on position?
Does the radio or headlights work?

Its quite possible that you may have a dead battery...

Do you have a 2nd Ignition key ?
Have you tried it? Does it do the samething?

Its quite possible that the ignition switch is worn out.. And maybe needs to be replaced...

I am beginning to think the ignition switch is worn out the battery is okay because when we bypass it and use a push button just to start it to see if it's running right etc it starts right up. The lights come on when the key is turned to the run position. It's just odd it really does act like there's something wonky with the key but it worked before after my husband fiddled around with it for a bit now it's gone back to not working and you really have to work at getting the key out of the steering column after it's in... Highly frustrating
