Will Synthetic Oil Harm 5.3 DOD V8's?
I read on another forum that full synthetic motor oil will harm the 5.3 V8's in our 06/07 SS Monte Carlo's. This person said he discussed it with reps at GM and was told cars with DOD would experience early engine failure if synthetic motor was used and only dino oil was safe. What's up with this? I switched to Mobile 1 last fall assuming I was doing a good thing for my car. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? Should I go back to dino oil?

There might be some truth to it, not sure. But don't think you can go wrong with mobil 1. I never run synthetic oil in my ls4 and don't plan on it. Changing your oil is the main factor, so many customers come in my shop with waaay overdue oil changes, they really don't care, no lights are on and if they are, big deal.

That is false, most ls4 owners run full synthetic. It's oil and swapping between regular and synthetic does not harm your engine. I use full synthetic. Synthetic runs better due to dod, it's lighter so less strain and it last longer, I no longer have dod however

Gm also said dod will help gas milage, when it doesn't. See how gm is? lol.

I run Conventional oil...
Im **** about my oil...
So, I change it every 3000 miles religiously!
Pensoil 5w30...
But I also use Lucas high mileage additive...
Me personally...
I have had Bad luck with synthetic oil...
So, I steer clear of it!
I get my cars oil changed and lubed for a meer $39.00.
It doesn't get any cheaper than that IMO...
It all boils down to personal preference...
If it aint broke...
Why fix it?
2 out of my 3 vehicles also have 5.3's!
My old school ways haven't hurt me yet!

I've never heard of synthetic being bad for a car but this is a first. Sme personally I run mobil 1 fully synthetic. Seems to be running much smoother since I switched from castrol partially synthetic

I don't know where this comes from. Synthetics are excellent and an upgrade from conventional oil, hands down.
I'm sure plenty of people are running synthetics in their 5.3L's and getting good results.
I've never run anything but Mobil 1 in my Monte and it's got well over 200K on it. I wouldn't see how the DOD could make synthetics bad for your car.
