Yes #171661 is Monroe's front replacement for the car so you'll be good. From what I've seen/heard, Monroes seem to be a pretty good strut replacement to go with.

Rock Auto is showing KYBs, Sachs, Monroe and AC Delco. The fronts seem to be common for all wheel sizes, but the rears are showing specific wheel sizes (ie.for the KYBs Part# 339148 GR-2 / Excel-G Rear; w/ 17 inch or 18 inch Wheels, but KYB Part # 339015 GR-2 / Excel-G Front). Same part numbers are shown for the 2006 SS (not called out as an SS, but 5.3L engine size). These are all bare struts, so there may be some difference in the assembled struts due to changes in the actual springs used for the different sized wheels, or different suspension tuning for the SS.

It's not so much the spring rate that you should be worried about. It's the lower spring perch on rear strut to clear the larger rims, they will rub if you don't get the proper ones for the fe4 suspension.I run the kyb agx all around on my 06 ss with 255/45r18tires in rear and have no issues, however if you run the oem tire size(235 50 18) they will rub.

Unless you run a 1" spacer. That will bring the wheel away from the spring perch and eliminate clearance issues.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one with this strut problem.

I just had these installed. I'm thrilled with the difference!

I went back and checked my invoice....it was "71661" but may have dropped the leading "1"...also, that is only for the strut, my springs were shot...that was part # SP08064 and Strut Mounting kit FM1687

Wouldn't be my choice. The body is already sitting way too high because of the rims.
