Default what am i missing?

Alrighty... Let's make a long story short. Just bought this car ('85 SS) last week. Previous owner took out the old transmission and put in another 200-4r. But my floor shift won't work, got underneath it and its not hooked up! What's missing here ?

I switched to a 5-speed a couple years back, but from what I remember there should be a bracket that holds the cable to the trans. I may have one laying around. I will look. If not the link below Is what you need .

Alright I purchased the bracket, but I'm still missing more. After looking over the pictures, I need a different shift linkage and I'm also missing the fitting peices that go on the end of the cable. I thought I found the proper shifter linkage bracket but it still looks like its missing a slot. Hopefully the pictures I include can catch you up to par.

This one is a shot of my trans, and shift cable. As you can see I'm missing the bracket that bolts to the pan, the actual linkage and the proper fittings on the end of the cable.

Proper bracket for cable and cable fittings

Proper linkage

Here's the linkage I found but it looks different than the one in the picture above

The car was originally a column shift that someone attempted to convert to a floor shift. You need the bracket you pictured - the one held on with the tranny pan bolts. You also need a new cable. The piece missing from your cable is an integral part. The cable connects to the linkage via the round hole in the bracket (the piece closest to the tranny pan).

No its an original floor shifter someone just swapped the wrong tranny out in it at one time. Sounds like you're on the right track, thanks for the help! So I need to buy a new linkage too? I already bought the bracket that connects to the pan.

The linkage pictured above - with the cable zip tied to it - is indicative of a column shift model. That's what leads me to believe it was originally a column shift that was converted. You don't need the linkage, only a new cable and the bracket that is held on by the tranny bolts:

Feed the cable through as shown and connect to the round hole in the bracket on the tranny shift shaft. Use the provided adjustment points to sync the floor shifter with the appropriate gear selections.

Not trying to argue with you, because I appreciate your help but I really don't think it was a column shifter car. I looked up the "floor shifter cable" on mikes Monte, and my cable comes up... https://www.mikesmontes.com/mobile/F...ble_p_264.html

Are you familiar with 4 generation monte Carlos? There is always a linkage going to the column - that's how GM locks the tranny in park. Otherwise you can shift through all gears with no key in the ignition. I'm telling you there has to be different linkage, there's no where to connect to.

I'm currently "using the column" to shift, but there is no lever. Just grabbing the outside and rotating it. According to other 4th gen owners I've spoken to, the column rotates when you move the shifter on the floor.
