Default Unplugged check engine light?

Hi all,
its been a while, hope your all doing well. I recently had a noticable engine problem but no check engine light. I had a scanner plugged in and it read the errors. I took care of them and the car runs good. I had a concern though that someone must of unplugged the check engine light somewhere down the road. Does anyone know where and how to get the check engine light turned back on?

Please help,

Thanks!

Turn the key to on without starting the car, CEL should be lit. If not then the bulb might be blown, or someone could have put tape over it

I dont think its tape. I think its either a blown bulb or someone unplugged it because I've had PO455 code on for a long time with no problems. So I had though someone just unplugged or disconnected the light to rid the problem. Im not sure though....?

And, would you happen to know how to get to the check engine bulb? So that i can check to see if its burnt out or not?

I don't think there is any way to unplug it. I had my cluster apart and if my memory serves me correctly, it's soldered into the circuit board. I'm sure where there's a will, there's a way but it isn't just as simple as changing a bulb

The back lighting and the lights for signals (like the Check Engine Light) are a special type of bulb hard wired to the circuit board for the cluster. It's not like the older units that you just go to the auto parts store, buy a bulb and replace it.

Many replace them with a resistor and an LED. You can do that or if it's like the back lighting on my Pontiac radio, you can get a suitable replacement bulb from RadioShack. But you have to work a soldiering iron no matter what.

Soldering isn't a problem. Is there a write up on how to get to the board and how to do all this? I don't wanna brake my gauges... Lol

You are in luck, last I knew BBEngineer turned his site off (or so I thought). But I checked and it's still there. Hope this helps:
