Default Turns signals work when they wnat to, why???

My turn signals on my 01 SS work basically whenever they decide to. Some days I hit the lever and they work everytime I use them. Other days they work half the time and sometimes they dont work at all. Is there a short or something and if so how would I fix that. Im no mechanic but Im pretty mechanically inclined but I never start messing around with stuff until I know what Im doing so I havent really dove into it. Ive had the car for 1-1/2 yrs and its always done this.

I just replaced my hazard switch and they work every time. Part was only like $35 and didn't take much time at all. I get a discount though, so the part might run you around $45-$50.
